Apprentice Luke Triton and the Gatekeeper’s Conspiracy
Prologue: New Stars Shine Bright
Professor Hershel Layton, born as Theodore Bronev, was famous and adored all over the world for solving mysteries and rescuing London numerous times as he went on his perilous adventures. However, what everyone seems to forget is that the universally beloved hero would have probably never made it though these journeys alive if it were not for his loyal apprentice, Luke Triton. Luke was just as brave and dedicated to busting the baddies as his role model was, yet he was never blessed with fame or glory due to this title – the hero’s sidekick. Since he was eleven years old, nothing much was expected from the boy, anyway. As plentiful as his contributed efforts were, he still remained under his superior’s shadow, and Layton’s name continued to swarm newspapers everywhere. This was true until the adventure you are about to read. This time around, Luke would be the one to save the day, and the Professor would be the one to thank him gratefully for it.
The events of The Last Specter were when the Professor initially met Triton, along with the series’ former tritagonist, Emmy Altava. Afterwards, the events of The Miracle Mask unfolded. This adventure revolved around Luke, Emmy, and Layton as they encountered the Professor’s old high school buddies Angela Delore and Randall Ascot, who was assumed to have died on an expedition with seventeen year-old Hershel many years beforehand. Following this journey was the one that took place in The Azran Legacy. This was the last time Professor Layton and young Triton saw long-time companion Emmy Altava, and also hosted the trio’s final encounter with Jean Descole. Descole was Hershel’s self-proclaimed ‘arch-nemesis’. He was born as Hershel Bronev, and later became known as Professor Sycamore Desmond after he gave his little brother, Professor Layton, his first name and got adopted. When The Azran Legacy’s adventure came to an end, the events of The Curious Village came into action. This was when Hershel and Luke met the Professor’s future protégée and presumably adopted daughter, Flora Reinhold, the Golden Apple herself. Layton also made a new opponent by the name of Don Paolo, or simply Paul for short. Then, the journey of The Diabolical Box took place, and the heroes met and learned about several tremendously plot-affecting characters like Sofia and Anton. The Unwound Future hosted the final adventure before this one. This time, Layton reunited with his old sweetheart Claire, who was assumed to have gotten killed in a time machine explosion ten years prior to the story, even before The Last Specter. This was an experiment that she, Dmitri Allen, and Bill Hawks were working on together. Claire did in fact die, yet, somehow, part of her got shot ten years into the future and therefore temporarily met up with her old boyfriend Hershel Layton once again. Eventually, the time machine grew unstable, and she had to return to the day she died, so she and the Professor shared one last, simultaneously heart-breaking yet spirit-lifting goodbye.
Two years after The Unwound Future, yet another new problem emerged, but this time Luke would be the one to ‘crack the code’. This adventure dubbed as ‘Apprentice Luke Triton and the Gatekeeper’s Conspiracy’ features a spotlight that shines on thirteen year-old Triton for the first time in Professor Layton history, and tells the tale of a twist-filled action-packed rollercoaster ride with ups, downs, and ‘oops, I fell down’s! Buckle up and hold on tight, because this ride around St. Mystere, the ‘Curious Village’ itself, might just send you flying beyond the horizon this time. Keep in mind that just because Luke gets some glory this time, it doesn’t mean Layton’s out of the picture. That would ruin the story. This journey is bound to excite the living daylights out of all of you, and make sure to remind the Professor to hold on to his top-hat for a change, because this time, the ride is going to be a just a little bit bumpier.
