Hello good people of Vizzed. It's been a while without a review from me. I decided to write this review on Vizzed because somehow "The Game that started it all" had no reviews..


So anyway, lets get right into the action!

Indroduction: 

This was the game that started the whole Mario bros. series and other Mario games.

Since it's release for the NES, it became one of the best in the world at the time. People played and enjoyed it, so they made a second and a third one. And guess what? They made 30+ more games after that! Probably the best video game series ever in my opinion.

Graphics - 8/10

Decent graphics overall. Even though this game was released ages ago, it still has decent graphics today. Mario looked pretty bad in my opinion so that's a deduction of a point. He may just be a red blob or something. I didn't see his mustache, and even his face so well. But in the future games, they changed Mario a lot, and Mario looks amazing now-a-days. The enemies looked pretty good in my opinion. They had loads of enemies as well and I like how every one of them moves and stuff.

Sound / Audio - 9/10

Hey, they still use some of these music in modern Mario games! Very good music choice for the levels and stuff out there! Even squashing enemies still counts as some kind of music. Even jumping like Mario does has decent audio.

The deduction of one point came from the repeating of music for a lot of the levels in this game. I wish they could change it and do much more different audio tracks, but that will take a lot of work, and some of the music might sound a little wrong.

Still, good music.


Addictiveness: 9/10

"Aw man, another failed speedrun." So the speedrunner usually tries, and tries, and tries again.

Even regular people that already beat the game, they want to play more usually.

It's even addictive for me, so yeah. Sometimes also an exciting game at the same time.

-1 Deduction because there isn't "More' into the game once you beat it a few times..
Story - 10/10 - Perfect score.

Excellent story in my opinion. Of course there is a reason to defeat Bowser and rescue Peach. It's amazing to see how a game this old uses the same Story today for Mario games.

No deductions, no nothing. I love this Story overall.

Depth: 7/10.

Well.. 8 worlds is not enough for hard gamers and stuff. Still, this is a great game, and I do not put too much blame since it was a pretty long game back then. I didn't like the idea of warps... AT ALL.I don't want anyone skipping worlds or levels. I want people to actually play the whole game, like I do, so yeah. No offence people that uses all of the warps. :3

But the levels are kind of and kind of not long. Especially World 8, they have some neat and pretty long levels. :3

So...

-1 - Some levels are short and can be completed in 20 seconds.

Difficulty

6/10

It's a 6!

This game wasn't that hard. I'm not going to do deductions on this one.

The final castle wasn't hard at all. It was just pretty much a maze and the final battle wasn't really a "final" battle.

I admit that some levels are hard for me to complete. But only 1 or 2 fails, the level seems so easy now and I go on and on until I complete the game. Anyone with me here?

If there was just one very hard level, I would have rated this game an 8.

Overall: 8.5/10

Decent Graphics and sound. Very Addictive especially for hard gamers including me. Excellent story and which is still used in present Mario games. Not many levels with not much difficulty, but this is one of the best games for the NES in my opinion.

+4 for Graphics and Sound

+1.5 for how addictive it is for hard gamers and others.

+3 for the excellent story.

Nice review dude, and i disagree with you, this game is hard!! Lol i still haven't beaten it to this day, and yes of course it is totally one of the best nes games out there, once cool review.

I highly recommend you watch gameplay. That is how I completed the last castle.

But compared to the third one, this is unpopular compared to the third one. You know what I mean? Kind of?

You made a mistake tough. Donkey kong started it all. It was the first game to feature Mario (Known as Jump man at the time) And the mario franchise started with mario bros for the arcades in 1983.  Edit that part. This game also did not start the franchise. Edit the name

I agree with imamonster.

There could have been so much more detail put into this review. Plus for those of us that aren't good at playing the NES games Super Mario Bros. is a very challenging game to play. I can't tell you how many times I would die on the first stinking level. Despite all my raging I still think Super Mario Bros. is an amazing game for me. Now I am going to play it again and think about how amazing that game is so take that.

You really should put more detail into your reviews though, because it would help.

imamonster : I know that, but this game was more popular and Donkey Kong wasn't really a long or adventurous game and stuff, it wasn't detailed.

Also you're a bit wrong there.donkey kong was extremely popular. In fact it was what made nintendo. They were almost bankrupt and when young shigeru miyamoto made donkey kong, they could swim in the money.

Black Bot : A very nice review, good examples of things from the game make it very interesting. It's a very simple but very nice game and one of my favourites, even though I've never completed it. I look forward to a next review of you, keep it up!

Just a little heads up (here comes my inner nerd)  But it is actually Donkey Kong that started Mario. While SMB was his OWN first game, Donkey Kong is actually when he came in existence. But yes SMB is the first OFFICAL Mario game. Did I take this a little too far? My inner nerd took over me for a second....:3
