Hello, members of the Vizzed community. I was not entirely sure of where to place this thread, Local Moderators, so I apologize if this is going to be another one of my seemingly 'regular' to-be re-categorized threads. I would like to discuss a topic that aggravates me twenty-four/seven. Profanity in youth, as the title suggests, is something you see practically every single day in my school. Among the third-graders. Not that seventh-graders, let alone anybody at all, should be swearing so much, but this specific situation is driving me nuts. Whether it's on the bus, in the playground, or in the hallway, the six to eight year old children are trying way too hard to be 'grown-up', and I honestly feel bad for them, as they are really embarrassing themselves. I must admit I swear every now and then when I am extremely frustrated, but these 'mature' kids use 'firetruck' (and it's derivation) as an adjective for basically everything, even when it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. The worst part is, they laugh among each other and think they are 'cool', when my classmates, the high-school students, and I walk past them with a 'why' face. Honestly, they are being pathetic, and if they grow up at that pace, there's no hope for them reaching success at all. This kid on my bus literally bends over to the other side to whisper a very 'important', and 'top-secret' (and very audible) message into his friend's ear. It's the same message every time. " - you!" Then, they roll over and laugh uncontrollably, high-five, and sigh. Honestly, my classmates aren't doing much better, but excessive profanity for absolutely no reason doesn't make a child a grown-up. It makes a child an idiot. It's honestly enough to laugh at silently when they're not looking. It's just pathetic. They are trying way too hard. Excuse me, let me re-phrase that. They are trying way too little. Hello, members of the Vizzed community. Most of those little kids that do it ether do it because they know they can get the uppity kids to gasp, they think it sounds cool because they hear other people doing it (normally older people), or its just what they do. I don't care if they do it or not, it just words. Any one can speak what and how they want to. I personally cuss like a sailor, not to impress anyone (don't know how it would), or for any other stupid reason, it is just how I talk, but there is a time and a place for everything. |

In my area, I have seen and heard 4 year old children say very bad words. Words I would not expect to hear from a 4 year old. The bad thing was there parents thought it was funny and would say the words with them. I think their are key variables at play here. The first being children sometimes learn these words from home. Just like the example I gave the parents thought it was funny. Then I heard the parents turn around and say curse words too. Second, sometimes children pick this up at school. Children may say bad words to get noticed. Third, the media here in America glorifies it. Music and movies have curse words in them. It is like they are teaching it is normal and okay for young children to cuss. Anyway, I know this is long but that is my take on this. |

I know that feel. When I'm not running into them on online games that use microphones, I see them whenever I go out, like to the park, or the store. While obnoxious, and they really need to stop, they learned it from someone. I used to cuss a lot more often when I was younger, not much, but more than I do now by far. I rarely do it, just under extremely stressful or sad circumstances. Although when I'm around some friends, I do it jokingly. Its just a matter of responsibility. |

It's only immaturity, nothing more. They see that saying cuss words incite an unnaturally shocked response in older kids and adults, so they think it's fun to rebel and say it. If there were no cuss words, immature kids would find some other way to rebel to cause a response. At least right now it's limited to making a combination of sounds with the mouth versus actual action. Since cuss words are just a combination of sounds made with the mouth, I couldn't care less about who says them. They have no effect on me. In a way, we (as a global society) are just as immature as the kids. For some reason words that mean nothing more than human excrement/organs/sexuality are supposed to evoke this serious, shocked response when said by children. What? At my high school we have a part closed off for four classes of grade 7's and 8's because they don't fit in the new school that was just built this year so this is their first year at our school. I walk to school and they usually hang around the skate before school starts. Mind you I have walked through the skate park everyday since I began going to that school and every single kid there swears like a sailor. It's actually kind of stupid because they are trying to look cool in front of the girls in their grade by swearing and trying to be some sort of tough kid. I was walking to school with my friend one day and there was a group of them and one of them comes out of their little group and walks up to me and goes "I have weed". I look at her really confused because at least someone her age should not have that. So I just replied with "Yea, well I have Fun Dip". And then continued on to my school. I hope she wasn't already smoking that young. I'm totally against smoking but if you start, at least don't start when you're in middle school. |

NintendoFanKimmy : Ehh... Immature kids these days I guess. Some kids say stuff out loud and I don't get why they say bad words, even though they are only 5-7 years old. Then they say blah then brag about everything then talk about crap. I'm sorry if I used some bad language o: I'm sorry if I used some bad language o: |

People are silly... Some of the 8th and 9th graders at my school say the f-word like 20 times each during lunch period... Pretty much the only time I swear aloud: When I'm playing VVVVVV... That game is so stinkin' frustratinggggg. I really don't like it though. I really don't like it though. |

Oh my god you don't know how much this annoys me. My brother is in middle school, when people are their most annoying. Whenever my parents aren't home, he always curses. I rarely ever curse. I don't like it. What really annoys me is that my brother doesn't even know what the words mean, he just knows that they are bad words. So what he says will make no sense, but it makes him feel cool because he used a curse word. I'd rather hear someone overuse profanity than use profanity incorrectly. |

I currently attend middle school, which is actually a "Junior middle school". Basically how it works is that instead of just grades 6-8 going to this school, grades K-8 go to the same school. What this means is that i have to endure hours upon hours of kids half my age screaming out every swear in the books. They even scream it in each others faces. Some of those kids don't even know what those words mean. They just say them because they think they sound cool.

Well, it really isn't just the younger kids doing this, I see this happen very frequently everywhere. Age really doesn't make a difference (at least from personal experience). I have seen people ranging from small children, 4 years old, and even adults and elderly swearing excessively. Heck, even I swear excessively, but I at least try to use context (though anyone reading this probably assumes that I'm also an idiot). It seems to just be a product of immaturity, though the younger children could also be doing it to illicit a response from the older kids, or to try and sound "cool". Anyone that's older, well, actually, they're still probably immature, and I'm mostly speaking for adults that just swear to swear, such as the few who use swear words every other word in their sentences. Anyways, yeah, it's annoying, and yeah, it will continue to happen, but (hopefully) the kids will grow out of it. In reality though, I don't actually care so much, and simply try to ignore the excessive swearing without context, as it works wonders when dealing with people. I'd have to say it's probably mainly due to immaturity and the environment they grew up in.. If profanity is used on a common occurrence it's highly likely that the child will use it as well... They just grow up with it as part of their vocabulary. Also I would point some blame at persona's on the Internet such as famous youtubers that like to curse a lot just to exaggerate and attract immature users. I think that simply put society is advancing and certainly not for the better. I think that simply put society is advancing and certainly not for the better. |

More and more generations to come are becoming lazy, with no cultured, less smart. Today children at age 7 years old say dirty words that I do not say, even today. Mysteries of me will always make people more lazy and less read. The book trailer is losing value which does not have to happen. |
