This month's Speed Run competition is for 'Donkey Kong Jr.' for the Nintendo NES. You can play it here:

The point of this competition is to beat the game as fast as you can.


VIDEO REQUIRED: You must post a video of yourself accomplishing the score you submit. You must use the RGR Plugin's built in video recording capabilities. The video submission has to be a single video, it cannot be broken into parts so if you recorded it in parts, be sure to merge them into a single video.

RULES: You MUST play the game using the RGR Plugin in 'Timetrial Mode' and take a screenshot of the ending screen by pressing F6 when you've completed the game. To play in 'Timetrial Mode', scroll down the page where it shows the Speed Runs, you'll see a link that says 'Click Here to Compete for Speed Run', click that. Once you've taken your screenshot, click the link near that one that says 'Click Here to Submit your Speed Run' to submit your speed run. The video must be uploaded to the vizzed youtube account. The video submission has to be a single video, it cannot be broken into parts.

You cannot cheat or use glitches of any sort.

Those competitions seems great I'll be sure to compete...... they seem alot easier than last months competition ROFL!!

rcarter2 : Thats where i stopped anyway, I had a half decent run of 2:04 and recorded but forgot to take a screenshot.lol.

Half this run is gonna depend on the rng of the enemies

mourinhosgum : As soon as the screen looks exactly like the target screen for the first time, that's when you end. The target screen can be found on the game's page at the speed run section.

Davideo7 : Hello, I have a question. I had beaten the game and made a screenshot and I also posted it, but I didn't record the footage. Does the score not count since I hadn't done it?

TheAdventurer : Nope. Doesn't count. As the rules states, video is required.

rcarter2 : Eh, oh well. I'll make a video next time I guess. Thanks for the info, I'll try harder next time to read the instructions.

TheAdventurer : The main reason for the videos is because many games just have ways to cheat. For example, some have passwords and save files. Some have glitches that were not intended to be a part of the game. The video is just assurance that the score or time that is posted was earned fairly.

Currently a 3 way tie for 3rd. Funny. I'm sure I can get my time down to 1:46. I have perfected each level (I am pretty sure). The problem is that to get the fastest run possible for levels 1, 3, and 4, the enemies have to do just the right things. I am finding if VERY uncommon for the enemies to move where I want them to move in EVERY level in one play. I am baffled at how the current leader has 3 videos out right now, and each one has the enemies going perfectly for him in all the levels. I have only had that happen once so far, and I messed up on the last level. Still kicking myself for that one. But seriously, how is that guy getting so lucky with the enemies moving in the right places? Very jealous.

rcarter2 : I am quite happy about this one. I feel i can place in this one. I know i can beat that run if i get good RNG.

He messed up quite a few times in the last level. Causing him to lose 2-3 seconds.

mourinhosgum : Yeah. I did see that. Honestly, my goal happened to be 1:46 before he got that score. I said to myself that once I hit that, I will leave it there and be happy with it, even if someone else beats it. Working on my Castlevania III deathless playthrough right now too.

rcarter2 : i do find it odd that he got near perfect enemy movements in every video though.

mourinhosgum : Just realized something about that video. Yes, he did screw up twice on the last level. But it actually didn't cost him any seconds at all. On the last key there was a claptrap (gator) climbing up that rope. Had he not messed up on those two parts, he would have gotten to that rope about 2 seconds earlier, but then the claptrap would have been farther down the rope. So he would have had to climb behind it anyway, and he wouldn't have been able to beat the level any quicker because of it. So it might as well be a flawless run.

Needless to say this has turned out to be quite the interesting speedrun. So many things affect your time including enemy AI. Best of all it's so short that everyone has time to try yet the hardcore can keep trying to shave seconds off their time.
