This thread is in response to

Sword legion :

Also calling (but failing to get the summons to work...)

play4fun:
rcarter2:

"Omniscient" or "All Knowing".

First, it does not include the impossible, such as a square circle. A square circle does not exist and, by definition, cannot exist: past, present, or future.

Second, an all-knowing being (omnipotent or not) cannot create what he does not know because there is nothing left to know. The being literally knows all of it (infinite or not), so either everything has been created and there is nothing left, or everything that could possibly be created is already known.

Third, it does not imply control. I know that gravity will pull me towards the earth. I do not control gravity. If God does know whether each individual will embrace or reject his grace, His knowledge doesn't destroy free will. Simply, he knows our will, past, present, and future.

"Omnipotent" or "All-Powerful"

First, this does not include the impossible, such as empowering something else to be greater than itself because there is no power the being lacks. The being literally contains all possible abilities, so nothing else can follow that has more abilities (although equal things can technically follow, although they are forever dependent on the empowering of the truly omnipotent).?

Second, an all-powerful being (omniscient or not) cannot have the power to know things he cannot do. The being literally has the power for everything, so there are 0 possible things for him to know he cannot do.

Third, it does not imply control. I have the power to turn off the light in my room. I have not turned off the light in my room. If God has the power to bring snails into heaven and have them run at 200 mph, it doesn't mean he will.

"Omnibenevolent" or "All-Good"

First, this does not include the impossible, such as giving salvation to those who cannot be saved or make evil. "All dogs go to heaven" is just a children's story, and while death may bring a family, closer, the death itself is not good.

Second, an all-good being (omnipotent or not) cannot do evil. The being is literally all-good, and so there isn't even a lack of goodness.

Third, it does not imply control. I gave the beggar on the street 2 dollars. He may or may not buy alcohol with it. Also, this means that bad things could happen to good people.

Txgangsta : Quick question, do I respond to what Sword Legion said last time, or do I just start fresh?

It doesn't matter. Summon him and see where he disagrees with those definitions, state your own definitions and see where he disagrees, show conclusions of his own definitions, whatever. I just got bored a few nights ago, the thread is now yours.

Sword legion : You ready on debating this soon? Also remember that this is a theological debate, so you do need to be careful on how you discuss with scripture and not have personal opinions go over what scripture says. You can start since...I don't exactly know how I should start this. Maybe you can follow what Txgangsta suggests and respond to how you would disagree with those definitions logically, scripturally, and theologically.

play4fun :

I'm getting up at 4:45, having a 2 hour drive to the work site, working till 3:00, and then getting home at 5:00 or 6:00, and between this and all my other projects that I have to finish, I'm really not sure that I can do this, otherwise I would have responded to some other threads that I had posted in. Maybe if this were back in springtime, but not now that it's summer and I have lots of roofing to do, heck, everything that I've been doing on the computer has been suffering.

I want to do it.  . . but I also have to keep in mind how much time I have.

Thank you for not forgetting about this though.

I would usually have people start fresh in each debate BTW, otherwise people just hold stuff against each other their whole life on a board, plus, theology tends to make changes over time just from gathering new information.

I am going to have to decline.
