To me, this is probably the most annoying thing about getting old. My grandpa just let those bad boys run wild, he could've tied a pony tail under each nostril. Not me though, the thought of those things blowing in the wind frightens me almost as much as having a little green abseiler stuck there.

I've been forced to trim regularly and thoroughly for about 3 or 4 years now. What about you? If you're a guy has it become annoying yet? If you're a girl, are you haunted by the 5 o'clock shadow?

I had a girlfriend who used to complain about a lot of things but when she pointed out the nose hairs, it was one of the few things I took seriously. So for a couple of years now I have been pulling them out by hand when ever I feel one. (Oh, now that you remind me I got to stop typing and do something.) My favourite spot to do this is in the elevator of my building where they have a huge mirror. Sometimes I feel like all the people in my building have caught me doing it one time or another. But my nostrils: smooth as a babies back side.

This is a problem that I admit to encountering a few years ago.  At first I tried plucking them, but they seemed to grow as fast as I could pull them.  It didn't take me long to look into other alternatives.  In the end, I ended up buying a beard trimmer with an attachment for that kind of thing.  It works great.  Every time I shave (I keep a light beard most of the time, so I only pull out the razor about once a week), I simply trade out the tip for the few seconds it takes me to clear each nostril of any unwanted hair.

I also know a guy who has a similar razor that he uses to clear his ear hair, . . . I'm thankful that I'm yet to encounter that problem!

GateKeeper_A : Oh no, Ear hair! I hadn't even thought about it.

This is a terrifying thought because of the sheer amount of mirrors involved in verifying that everything is OK.

thephantombrain : I don't have a problem with ear hair (knock on wood), but for some reason, it seems like every hair that falls off the top of my head has been replaced with two on my back, . . . *shudder*

As you get older, sometimes it horrifying some of the new places you start growing hair!

To be honest though, what bothers me far more than the nose hair is the fact that I recently discovered that I have crows feet around my eyes.

First time I hear about a razor you can fit up your nose and my nose is pretty big. I guess the nostrils are not so. That's why I pluck em out. Sure they go quickly back but in the end the alternatives of letting them just grow out is far more worse.

So far no ear hair though.

I keep my beard shaved off regular but I keep my goatee. I have never been forced to shave. One time I let my beard grow out but I did not like it. So since then I keep mine shaved. I mostly prefer to just have a goatee, which I do. I am 29 years old by the way

tornadocam : I never realized you are 29, welcome to my discussion about nose hairs old-timer! But wait, we're not talking about goatees!

Get a flashlight and look up your nose, then you'll have something to talk about.

Brigand : Nose AND ear hair trimmer that runs on one AA battery and even comes with eyebrow combs. All the people in your building will miss those awkward moments in the elevator, though.

Despite my younger age, I have a huge problem with chin hairs. However, it's also because I suffer hirsutism thanks to my PCOS.  Everyone I know says I'm insane and it's not noticeable, but I'm sure you'd agree that there are many things we think people are just 'nice' about.  I can seriously pluck every little hair on my chin, and they'll be back in full force the same night or next morning.  I'm not exaggerating in the least, and even if it's not all that visible to others, it drives me nuts and is a great source of sorrow and stress for me.

thephantombrain :  LOL.  My nose hair fortunately doesn't bother me that much.  My eyebrow hair on the other hand is kind of weird.  There is always 1 or 2 hairs playing Mr. Fantastic.  They just stubbornly stick out and grow much longer than the rest then I have to pluck it like a girl.

Singelli :  She's alliiivvveee! Welcome back??

More you have hairs in your ear the less you have to live, I heard they say.

So far it looks like I am immortal.

Plucking hairs?  I started getting white, WHITE hairs in my beard in my late teens, now in my mid thirties, almost 20% of it is white.  That said, I used to pluck every one of them for a lot of years (two or three a day sometimes) until I finally gave up.  After that, my wife made a game out of trying to point them out to me.  She rarely was able to point any out.  Over time, I've come to realize that a few odd hairs don't tend to draw much attention.

You may try NAIR to thin the chin hair, each time you use Nair, the hair comes back a little softer and thinner each time.  My wife had a similar issue for a while, but that was enough to clear it up to a much more manageable state for her.

thephantombrain :   That's a little funny that your grey hair stuck out so bad.  My beard comes in a really dark brown (Just a shade or two short of black) and no one ever used to notice the white hairs.  People do now, but that's only because my beard is peppered so heavily in white.  Maybe Singelli is right and people were simply too nice to say anything about it?

yeah, I unfortunately have to trim both my nose and ear hair. Ears aren't bad yet but both require a trim once a week to keep them under control. My beard is also going a bit grey in spots.

Getting old is annoying. I have so much more maintenance stuff to do than I used to.

geeogree : And just think about how badly we all wanted to grow up when we were little!  Personally, I wish I could go back to being 8-12 again!  A magical time of summer break from school, playing the games that have become the classics we pine over now, and just a little too young to spend all of our time chasing girls that weren't interested in us anyways.  No hair in weird places, no sagging in disturbing places, and none of those other miserable things that come with age!  Those were the days!
