Welcome, I'm new here as well.

You say that you like Video Games.  What kind of games do you enjoy?  Do you like sports games in addition to real sports?  Or do you enjoy other kinds of games?  Any specific console(s) that you are particularly fond of?

As for myself, I'm a big fan of the NES, SNES, and even the Gameboy/Color/Advance (I kind of view all three as a single unit since all of the games can be played on the Advance!)  I enjoy nearly any kind of game, but RPGs and party games (Super Off Road, Gauntlet, Gauntlet II, and other 2-4 simultaneous player games.) have a special place in my heart.

Hope you have a lot of fun here, and that you are able to enjoy all the games you love!

Hello! Welcome to the both of you!

This website is actually a lot better than downloading an emulator and roms to take up space in your computer like other websites. You're in a win-win situation here. You will enjoy what this website has to offer.

I hope you enjoy your time here as much as I do! Keep on gaming!

XxLittlexZxX : If you like the Pokémon games, you might also enjoy the Dragon Warrior Monsters series.  The series includes three games:  Dragon Warrior Monsters, Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Cobi, and Dragon Warrior Monsters 2: Teri.

, there is Azure Dreams which is another great, under appreciated game (I have the version for the PlayStation 1, but I have heard that the Gameboy Color version is every bit as good as the PlayStation 1 version.)

Both the Dragon Warrior games and Azure Dreams allows you to capture and train monsters to fight for you.  The Dragon Warrior games are a little more RPG, and Azure Dreams is a little more of a turn-based action game.

While I own a couple of the Pokémon games, I've never really taken the time to play them much.  Are there any particularly good ones that would make a good starting point in the series?

GateKeeper_A : when it comes to pokemon, there are a lot of games! See, I'm more a fan of the Kano region. So a good one to start out with is fire red/ leaf green (GBA)! But also gold/ silver version (Color) is also good. I haven't played much of the emerald series, so I am not an expert on that series, but when it comes to Kano, I'm an expert. If you want a hacked version, Ash gray (GBA) is a good one! I've been playing that one a lot lately. Thank you for those game ideas; I'll have to check them out!

XxLittlexZxX : Thanks for the advice on the Pokémon titles.  Its a series that I have intended to get into for a long time, but it always seems like there is something that I want to play just a little bit more.  I'm not positive which games in the series I own without digging for them, but I think they are Pokémon Red, Pokémon Stadium, Pokémon Gold, Pokémon Emerald, and Pokémon Ruby.  Since you recommended Pokémon Gold, I will put that at the top of play list for this summer's vacation!

As for the hacked version of the game, I will probably wait on that for a little while.  I don't mind hacked or modded games, but I prefer to play through them in their original form before I start dabbling in the variations.   That said, I keep a list of "Look into it" games in a word doc on my computer, and I've added it to that for future reference!

I hope that you enjoy the Dragon Warrior Monster series and Azure Dreams!

GateKeeper_A : I agree with you, I have a lot of "look into games" that I wanna play. The idea of the file for games you wanna play is a good idea. I agree with you, I like the normal pokemon also, but the hacked ones I play, they follow the original game, just made for an emulator.

XxLittlexZxX : I completely understand.  I've played a few hacked or modded games over the years, but I always make a point of playing through the original first.  It just seems to be the right way to do things to me.  Besides, if you have played the original, then you have something to measure the hacked/modded version against.

Some of my favorite games have hacks/cheats/mods that I absolutely love.  For example:  Over the years, I have played several versions of the original The Legend of Zelda, nearly all of which I have loved  (I have actually added a couple of versions from this site to my "Must play" list for future gaming.)  But before I started playing new versions of the old game, I had played The Legend of Zelda exhaustively, mastering the game and memorizing much of it in the process.  When the time comes to play Pokémon, I will play through the series of games (I expect it to take a year or two to make it through all of them), but once I have made it through the series, then I plan to go back and look up a few of the mods to play as well.  When I start playing hacked/modded versions of Pokémon, I promise to start with Ash Grey!

Do you have any other recommended games to play?  I'm always open to new recommendations!

GateKeeper_A : I love the Zelda games, we'll at least minish cap. And donkey kong/ Mario are great games. I've played them many of times, but off the top of my head, I can't think of any other games, if I think of any, I will tell you.

I completely agree with you, playing through the series first is a good way to do it before playing hacks. See, I've been playing these games for years! I've almost played all of the original games, but it has taken years to do. So it will also take you a long time too.

If you have any ideas of other games, I am open to them.

XxLittlexZxX :   Yeah, the Zelda series has been something really special for a long time.  I think the only ones I ha vent cared for were the ones for the N64 (Didn't like how they looked) and Zelda II on the NEW.  My favorite one in the series has to be the original, followed closely by the third one (SNES).

The Mario games have been a lot of fun.  I liked the first four  (Mario Brothers, Super Mario Brothers, Super Mario Brothers 2, and Super Mario Brothers 3) really well, but my favorites in the series are Super Mario RPG, and the two Paper Mario games, hands down.

I've never been as big of a fan of the Donkey Kong games, I've enjoyed them, but they just we rent anything special to me.  My kids and wife however are all big fans of the Donkey Kong Country series, and the Donkey Konga games.

As for other ideas?  I can give a list of some of my old favorites.

NES: 1942, 1943, Castlevania (The entire series), Dragon Warrior (The entire series), Faxanadu, Final Fantasy, Gauntlet II, Iron Tank, Life Force, Metal Gear, Metroid, Shadowgate, Spy vs Spy (Boring alone, but an absolute riot with friends!), Super Off Road, The Guardian Legend, Wizards & Warriors (The entire series).

SNES: Act Raiser, Act Raiser 2, Final Fantasy II, Final Fantasy III, Illusion of Gaea, Secret of Evermore, Secret of Mana, Super Metroid.

GB/GBC/GBA: Castlevania (The entire series, the GBA ones are the best among them), Dragon Warrior (The remakes are good, but there are a few spin offs that are really good as well.), Final Fantasy (The "Legend" & "Adventure" games for the GB aren't very good, but the remakes are all excellent), Metroid (Any of the series,) Zelda (Any of the series).

Computer:  Arcanum (Open world, steampunk RPG), Command & Conquer (If you like strategy games, these are a lot of fun, C&C Red Alert 2 is probably the best among them though), Fallout 1 & 2 (Very gritty, open world post-apocalypse,turn-based RPGs)

That's all I can think of off the top of my head right now without straying into more recent generations of console.  Hope that you find a few new games to try amongst my ramblings!

GateKeeper_A : thank you! See I'm a little younger, so I don't know much about the old game, but I wanna learn more about them, and find new ones to play. And that was a fantastic list of old games. I'm definently gonna look into those.

I use to play the N64 all the time, and then some nice family gave my dad two old nintendos (I don't know what type it was, I forget) but they had a huge collection of games, and I played a few. I think it was the original Nintendo.

It was a great system. I played my dad on it all the time, and he beat me everytime, because that's what he grew up on. So I wanna find some of those games we played and play them again. So your list is fantastic, thank you.

It was a great system. I played my dad on it all the time, and he beat me everytime, because that's what he grew up on. So I wanna find some of those games we played and play them again. So your list is fantastic, thank you.

XxLittlexZxX : A That's the kind of thing I want with my boys, a chance to show them how much things have changed over the years and just how much some of the old games still are to play!  Its great to know that you love the old games, I think too few people (especially younger people) truly appreciate them anymore.

I was really huge into video games back in the early to mid 80's, spending a lot of time playing games on an old Atari and the original NES.  When the SNES came out, I got into that as well.  I was never really impressed by the N64 like I had been with the earlier systems, so I spent quite a few years going back through and playing many of the old games over again, and expanding my library of games during that time.  It wasn't until about 10 years ago that I got back into the newer consoles, jumping pretty heavily into the Gamecube and PlayStation 2, then moving on to the Wii and Xbox 360 about 3 years ago.  To be honest, I love the new systems, but I find myself more inclined to buy the retro packs than many of the newer games!

You say you are trying to find some of the older games that are worth playing?  Are you looking just for yourself?  Or are you looking for games that can be played with others?

If you are looking for party games to play with friends/family, take a little time to check out Clay Fighter (SNES), Rampage (NES, Smash TV (NES), Gauntlet (NES), Gauntlet Legacy (N64), Killer Instinct (SNES) Primal Rage (SNES), Street Fighter II (SNES, a must for any fighting game collection!), Goldeneye 007 (N64), Super Smash Brothers (N64), and Mortal Kombat (SNES).

I'm glad you like the list from my earlier post.  I know that a few of the games aren't the highest rated games for those systems, but they ARE the games that I fell in love with as a kid and still play today.  I only hope that you are able to find a few gems in the list that you will enjoy as much as I did!

GateKeeper_A : I've the played the newer systems a lot. But I have a few stores around that are a game store, but they all systems, even the old ones. I love going in there and seeing the old systems, and they actually have a really good selection. I didn't grow up in the retro game era, but I got my love for it from my dad. He grew up on that stuff when he was young, and he has shown me some of them. My dad owned a N64 so I played that a lot. I played that more than I did the new systems (ps2 and xbox when they first came out). We use to have a few nights a week that we played Mario kart together, it was really cool.

To many people take the old games for granted, if it wasn't for those, we wouldn't have the new games. Don't get me wrong, I love the new systems, but I also love the old systems. One of my favorite N64 games was super smash bros. And thank you for the new listen!
