Personally, I like SMB2. I think the reason it's so unpopular is because of its major departures from the traditional Mario formula and setting. The fact that it is the only game in the series to go its direction probably weirds people out.

I would say that it is hated because it is different. I played it on the GBA and I loved it. This was before I knew that it was a cheap rip off but I still loved that game to death.

It didn't have a lot of features that have made Mario a classic. Also, it didn't have a save feature (until the Lost Levels). That really bummed me out when I played it as a kid. Now, it's no prob for me, and I love the game more than a lot of other Mario titles.

i think because it was a rip off of the doki doki panic game, and that some people may have felt that they could have bought DDP and saved money... but that's just my idea

I have a ROM of Ninja Gaiden. I had it as a kid, but the NES died. I can't get past the first level... It's an awesome game, though. Now here's one that's even harder: Dragon Wang for the SG-1000. It is labeled a Master System game when played on emulators, but it is really for the SG-1000. It was only sold in Japan, and the name is obviously why most people even bother with it, but it's hard. ...Remember, just because I said Dragon Wang is hard doesn't mean I was trying to slip any naughty jokes in.

Here's a game that even worse: Battletoads!
