I think about the only two things that really killed the game were the voice acting and the use of profanity. Seriously, we all know how dark the Sonic series can get, hinting a few lines of Robotnik's from Lost World and Sonic technically DYING for a short period of time in Sonic '06... and have you sporking SEEN Metal Sonic Kai from Chaotix? Yeah, the series can get pretty darn dark, and I LOVE it when it does, but never once did you hear a profanity until ShTH, which for me kind of killed it because in my mind I'm thinking, "... yeah, bad things happen that you have to avert, some worse than others, but you always have a choice over what words you use."

I have never played the game, but I would be satisfied if they had just made a Star War's battlefront II mod where all the units are remade to be GUN robots, or E 100 series robots with Sonic, Shadow and other characters replacing the heroes.

The game is one that I would really like to try, and yet scares me to death at the same time, I think that this game may have marked the beginning of the fall of the Sonic series. :/

. . .

to be worsened by Sonic 06. . .

I personally enjoyed Shadow the Hedgehog and didn't really find a problem with it (Except for the times where all logic breaks and you end up killing the black arms to help the black arms).I thought of it as a way for the Sonic franchise to explore new ideas and share them with us,good or bad.It did have some cursing and some would argue that it's out of place, but after watching Sonic X (Sub) cursing in Sonic doesn't seem out of place anymore really.I kinda liked the soundtrack and since Crush 40 did "I Am All of Me" it was an awesome song (Like pretty much all other Sonic game intros). In the end it all goes down to personal opinion but I don't think Shadow the Hedgehog is bad at all.

He's friend or foe, a confusing protagonist to decide to be honest. I mean he is evil to humans but nice to people he trusts, but he was made this way by Black Doom. If any of you want to find out Shadow's past, then if you have a PlayStation2, you MAY still be able to buy Shadow The Hedgehog. Also it MAY be on PS3 store.

Well, it's far from my favourite game, but I do think people rag way too much about the shallow stuff (the profanity. What a silly way to dismiss a game).
No, Shadow does have it's issues, but the profanity is a dumb one. It's the whole execution of the multiple endings (namely that you have to beat all ten final bosses to get the true ending). If it were just five, and you didn't have to do all the ending stages twice, I could easily say Shadow has a good game. It's just the fact that playing the same stages multiple times gets very monotonous.

Lets see. Shadow for the Gamecube? My friend had that game. I only played it a little but I really liked it. I didn't like it as much as the other Sonic the Hedgehog games for the console but I didn't think it was bad. I haven't played that game in a very long time so maybe my opinion has changed but I don't think it has.

I have that game and I thought it was actually pretty good when I first played it, but I haven't played it in a while, but I am sure I will see it in a different light if I played it now. I don't think the game was all that bad, and I was already about 10 when I played the game and the curse words weren't horrendous ones, and I didn't focus on them because I was actually enjoying the game!

As for shadow, he has always been my favorite sonic character, his personality is dark and serious and he has a cool design in general, plus he is a more well developed character since we know more about his past.

I liked "Shadow the Hedgehog" quite a bit. As far as the rest of the series goes, it's actually got about as much replayability, if not more, than the two Adventure games.

For one, it gives you the option of "choice". You choose what side Shadow is on, where he's going, what he should do, who he should help, and those choices affect the outcome no matter how subtle. With over 300+ possible storylines, 11 different endings, and the final story and ending, the game has a lot to allow each playthrough to be potentially as different as possible every time.

When you find all the keys in a level, new areas open up and give either a new vehicle to use or a new path to save time.

There's a lot of weapons to use, or you can be challenged to use as little as possible.

There's several characters to assist you, or berate you, and Shadow is who you want him to be, or who your actions decide he should be.

Ultimately, yes, he's eventually the hero and saves everyone, as the final story dictates, but the other storylines can give you anything from a tragic soul with a broken memory, an easily manipulated character who falls whatever way the next assist character tells you, a dude having a mental breakdown when faced with the possibility that he might not even be the real version of himself, a guy who decides that he'll accept responsibility for his actions no matter how severe, a hero that just wants to take a moment to kick Sonic's annoying blue butt... there's a lot that can happen, and it's all up to you really, how you play it.

Some endings, Shadow goes crazy. Some of them, he takes his role as a defender of the planet. Some of them, he's concluded that the world is better of without him. Some has him just wanting a rematch with Sonic just to prove something.

Sure, the game may feel a bit unpolished at some points, the voice acting is pretty laughable (especially with how obviously awkward the actors sound with the cursing), and it's seriously trying to feel "dark" with the rusted metal, the burning skies, and all that... but it's still a fun romp that feels like a Sonic game at heart.

The only real problem is that it feels like a drag at some points, with some levels having to be replayed way more than others, and I honest laugh at how they tried to make Shadow seem all "hardcore" by giving him bullet firing guns and making him drive with an arm hanging out down along the door holding said gun... when in Sonic 06, he drives with both hands on the wheel and actually looks behind himself to back up. XD

It's not the best game, but it's certainly not the worst in the series. If anything, I would like to see if Sonic Team (or any other company) can implement the choice system again, but a bit more refined. Y'know, make at least every other playthrough feel different enough that you really feel that you've influenced the outcome of things, whether it be for better or worse. I liked when they made us feel like we worked hard enough to earn the good endings.

Shadow is an awesome game, in fact, it's one of my favorite sonic games. My only complaint is it brought back the "Bosses Won't Shut The Flip Up" era. Even if it only lasted one game, bosses not shouting the same thing every 5 seconds was awesome.

Mecha Leo : I personally do not like the Sonic the Hedgehog games because there is not much game play to them besides just running a course.

happiness7 : sonic unleashed fighting sections, multiple modes in sonic adventure, mission based levels in heroes, the drill wisp in colors, etc.

yeah, it's fine if you don't like a game series, but once you enter the domain of the internet and try sharing opinions...

I thought the gameplay was fun, so I don't really care about Shadow trying to look cool with his profanity, motorcycle driving, and whatnot. Running around at high speeds and shooting things sounds like something I'd enjoy, and you get to choose your path and storyline as you play. You can choose to be a hero or villain (until the Last Story, of course), which adds to the interest. Shadow's powers are fun to use, as well. The Chaos Blast obliterates everything around you, and Chaos Control has two different uses: speeding to the end of the level (if there is a goal point like in neutral missions) and slowing down time during boss battles. It's not a perfect game, but it's enjoyable for me.

Shadow The Hedgehog Good?

I really cant enjoy a game with broken repetitive gameplay, unbearable voice acting and themes that are just strange because... he is a hedgehog!

If you enjoy this game fair enough but that above, is what I think of it.

Sure you don't have to use the guns but they don't mix at all. It's practically the same thing as putting a rifle or knives in Mario. One things games must tread carefully in doing is changing their target audience. It takes time and you have to slowly transition to that. But for Sonic it went from bouncing on robots with friends and defeating a goof scientist to killing with guns and dark stories. That is for us it's probably nothing but for kids at the time it was kind of a shocker. The game alone was also boring in most parts. It starts off good aside from all the things I just mention. Playing as Shadow with your moves was fun but after a while it get repetitive and not even fun anymore. I have no idea what Sonic Team was thinking for this one. Most likely due to this games failure we won't see a Shadow the Hedgehog game any time soon now. That really upsets me because it had so much potential. Being a more popular character that Sonic it could have done much better than any Sonic game if they had tried. Also if they really wanted to put all this dark stuff in their do you really think anyone would take it seriously with him being a hedgehog? Think about Amy with a gun or something like that.

Food for thought.

yeah, I gave up on the hero path's 4th level intro... pathetic

So yeah, sega can't make a T rated game out of a cartoon animal who looks nothing like what he's supposed to represent. Except it's his rival... with a gun. My point is that what's the defining point between Sonic Heroes and Shadow the Hedgehog?

I thought the game was pretty decent, I finished the main story line but could never seem to get all the endings. Yeah the game had its glitches and all that but I enjoyed it.

I found the game to be decent. i didn't like how you had to beat the game numerous times in order to get to the real ending. Other than that the game controls OK. it isn't as slid y to me than heroes. (I love sonic heroes. It was my first sonic game) The guns were fine but felt a little out of place but you don't have to use then. I enjoyed some of the vehicles like that bat creature and some of G.U.N. trucks. That is about it. I thought it was decent.

I found the game to be good. It was something fresh from the Sonic Team, adding in the guns and the dark undertones. The Glitches can be overlooked. As it is Sonic Team, they've had other games with numerous glitches and bugs in them. Sometimes I think they just leave them in.

The Story was... adequate. The choice factor for Shadow's moral siding was an interesting thing to come from the Sonic Team, and I found it to be nice. The only annoying factor is that, as others have said, you need to complete the game numerous times to get the true ending. And that may become a bother for some.
