Found a fun question. And I really like it.

Anyways, would you rather be an insane person in a totally sane, functional society, or would you rather be a sane person running an insane, dysfunctional society?

This question is actually legitimately hard for me.  am having a hard time coming up with some good reasons.

However, some reasons I did get to think of so far are that if you were to be an insane person in a sane society, there really won't be any crazy stuff going on. Sure, you may be locked up in a mental institute (if we are talking that kind of insane), and everything in life would be a-okay.

In a crazy society, who knows what the people might do? Kill a man on the spot for stealing a loaf of bread (Les Mis reference-ish) instead of a proper sentence and jail time...hang people (crazy, ain't it) for looking at stop signs, etc. Dysfunctional society. I think that says enough about itself.

Sure, one would care much more about his/her own life than of society as a whole, but in these cases, a functional society is a better option than a dysfunctional society, not so much the being insane or sane part.

What do you think?

If the society is functional then there would be a place for insane people to get treated and I would have  a chance . But I hate being in a bad society becasue there would be insane people walking the streets and causing harm . I prefer the functional society please

I'd have to agree with Zed there, I'd rather be insane in a functional sane society instead of a sane person in an insane one. I might be able to receive proper treatment, and the latter scenario just seems like an absolute nightmare.

Good question though.

I would be a sane person in an insane, dysfunctional society.  I would abuse the heck out of my powers and take advantage of whatever I wanted to.  I would be a despot and run things as I saw fit and the insanity would allow me to do so with impunity.  If I were insane, i wouldn't be able to enjoy the benefits of my existence.  When I can help myself to anything and everything, I'd enjoy that quite a bit.  Sure, I'm not in it to be a benign and gentle ruler.  If I get the option, I'd take everything in sight and call it a day.

as an insane person i can only answer this question from the first point of view, but its not that bad being insane. sure it depends on exactly WHAT is wrong wth you, and i dont mean the diagnoses. a diagnoses is meaningless, its just used to bill a patient. without one, they cannot do so. the truth of the matter is, that being insane is no different from being "sane".

one lives life, and experiences various facets of it. this does not change by being "insane". take me for example, for years i struggled with reality as a child. i heard, and sometimes saw things i didnt understand. i felt things that couldnt be explained, and would sometimes spell various scents or taste something, when there would be no reason to. i forced my way through that to come to an equilibrium that gives me a sort of lucid yet blurred state of mind.

insanity is nothing more than a term deemed upon those who do not conform to what we consider a "normal" person. its not a real term, its a loose term that has no true definition. crazy, insane, mad, nuts, wacko, whatever. they have no meaning. if you wish to as a question like this you need to FIRST define what you mean. dont use a loose term that has no meaning and leave it up to the interpretation of those reading it. what is your definition? people who are so dangerous that they have to be locked up in a padded room? murderers? rapists? the homeless guy sitting downtown with a cardboard sign that dosent say anything, mumbling to himself?

I would go with being an insane person in a functional society rather than being sane in a dysfunctional society, because over my whole life, I've been sane living in a dysfunctional society and that caused me to lose is a quite a bit of times here and there when I try to ignore the dysfunctions, but all I wanted is a functional society more than a dysfunctional one, even if I am insane, if I choose of being insane in a functional society, I can at least calm myself down, because that, I can handle with more, no craziness than a bunch of craziness.

I would rather be insane in a functional society, because I probably wouldn't be alone in this situation-while in the latter one, I would probably be the only sane person...right?

I would personally be an insane person in a functional society rather than to be completely sane and run a dysfunctional society. I choose being insane, because as the sane person you would have essentially failed the people in the society by not making it functional. If I were the insane person in the functional society, I might also get mental help or at least get the proper care that is needed for someone who is mentally ill.
