Here's a few small but handy search related updates:


Updated Video Game Room Auto-complete
Before when you'd search for a game in the Video Game Room, the drop down box that shows recommended games based on what you're searching for was based on the Retro Game Room so therefore it wouldn't display games that aren't playable. This has been fixed and it now displays all of the games in the VGR.


RGR and VGR Auto-complete now displays system
When you're searching for a game, the drop down box now displays the system initials next to the game name.


Specify a game system in your search
You can now specify a game system by referring to it's initials and wrapping the initials in square brackets; example: [snes]

Doing this will make games for that system display before any other system so it'll allow you to find a certain game you're looking for quicker. This is especially handy for those who tend to click the '1st' button to the right of the search box. For those who don't know what that does, it basically takes you straight page of the first game that is found.

Here's an example of this in action:

This is a search for Aladdin without specifying a system:
https://www.vizzed.com/videogames/index.php?search=Aladdin

This is a search for Aladdin with snes being the system specified:
https://www.vizzed.com/videogames/index.php?search=Aladdin+[snes]&system=&searchBy=name#searchjump


System Specific Auto-Complete
This update is probably the handiest. If you go to a specific game page in the Retro Game Room or the Video Game Room, the drop down box will only display games for that system. Before it would show games for all systems but that is no longer the case.

I think this will be very helpful for people who have games that have long name or have games with very exact names. Like punch out since i've seen a couple people talk about it before

Excellent. You can rate the games in the VGR section I assume since I saw Pokemon Y get rated. Earlier when I tried rating a game in VGR, I would get an error message.

Davideo7 : Related to what Azul said, when the rate button is clicked, the URL changes to just the games ID number instead of it's name, which seems to be a null page which doesn't exist. Anything you can do about that?

I think there are a few points on which it could be further improved

1-I think when you choose an offered drop box option e.g

call of d...
Call of duty modern warfare 2

It should automatically search it, as things stand you still need to hit search.

2-I think you should either
a) Seperate the results, different consoles can be on the same line and it makes it more awkward to find the one you want

b)Colour code the consoles so the desired ones jump out at you. E.g xbox could be red, ps3 could be purple (The colour isnt important, so long as they arent blue or green, because then it will blend with the site)

3-I agree with below, you cant rate games. I know you could before because I have previously done it.

4-Maybe you should set it so clicked results open in a new tab, that would make multiple adds easier

5-I think the search filter buttons (ps3, xbox, a26) would be far better if they were ordered. The consoles from left to right, newset to oldest, and then the same for the handhelds. Currently ps2 is in the first column under mame, and the ps3 to the right of the gameboy and under the playstation 1. The layout isnt very intuitive.

They are all fairely minor points (I havent said some that i imagine would be harder) however if implemented I think it would make the feature less imposing to people considering using it.

Great job! These are awesome updates for the game rooms! Now that you fixed the search problem where it would display more systems than what you wanted it won't be as difficult for me to find what game I want. Thank you! Keep up the excellent work!

Azul Fria : Fixed. You can now rate games in the VGR without having to review it

1) You're saying that you want the page to start searching for something as you type in the search box? That would cause too much strain on the servers.

2) I do plan to put a system symbol next to each of the games in the VGR like I have for the RGR games. I could do color coding too.

4) I think more people would hate that than would like it. It's simple enough to right click and say open in new tab (or click the middle mouse button if you have one).

5) The systems currently aren't in alphabetical order because I want the best systems to show up since there's only room to display 22 systems. So if they were in alphabetical order, some of the more important systems would cut off. I'll eventually find a solution to that problem but for the time being.

Keep in mind that the VGR is still in beta.

Im not saying alphabetise all systems, simply organisation of the displayed ones.

I use multiple browsers, but the one I used yesterday was firefox (which I also used for the current screens obviously)
I dont know what you think is wrong, but you might be noticing a difference because I Use ctrl + mouse wheel to change the page zoom.

On a slightly related note did you ever find out why rcarters posts in restricted threads show up as reviews in my friend action box?
