So I have to run a mile at school every year at the beginning and end of the year, Some kids walk the whole thing and get like 15 minutes, others (mainly the kids that are on the track and cross country teams) try hard and get 5 or 6 minuets. I try hard, but I don't run every day like the people that get 5 or 6 minutes. I ended up getting 8 minutes and 3 seconds. My goal was to get less than 8 minutes. I missed by 3 seconds. And I had to walk the last quarter of a mile because I had a really bad cramp. Anyway, what is the fastest you have ever run a mile?

I have to run a mile at school every year too. I get 11 or 12 minutes of the mile done. I don't like running, but I don't want to take forever doing it. This year, I got 11 minutes and 42 seconds. On a side note, in my school, the students who walk the whole thing finish the mile in 18 to 20 minutes and gets a bad grade for it.

I have to do this too. Frankly, it's tiring. But I can manage it.

I end up finishing in 5 or 6 minutes. I'm not some cross country runner, just an okay athlete. My last one, and my personal best, was 5 minutes and 33 seconds. My god, do you want to KNOW how tired and drained it makes you? My legs were killing me. A lot. You can't do this without determination and effort. It's just... Man...

My fastest time was 9 minutes 23 seconds.

I was like:"MUST. RUN. VERY FAST."

I'm a couch potato, so I thought it would've taken me 11 minutes- like I usually do.

I made a thread just like this and it has been inactive for months. But oh well, this is off to a good start reply wise. I can run a mile in about 5:30 minutes. I did cross country though so that is the reason why. I have better endurance so it isn't that hard for me. I only run about 6 minutes for a mile in gym because that is all I need to be done first, and most kids aren't done until about 5  minutes later because they're fat and slow XD.

So for me I can easily run a mile in under 6 minutes and my fastest time is  like 5:28 or something like that. I just don't like running in hot, humid weather though. But that is my time for running a mile.

We do it every year at the end of the school year. My time was - ready to be blown away? 5 minutes. I was really persistent, like always. I was running a good 25 MPH, and I did not stop for anything. I know, Im an athlete, it is my life's goal. XD

I have to run the mile as part of the Presidential and National Fitness Test at my school. My time is dependent on the day. Once I got the mile done in six minutes, fifty-something seconds, but I usually finish somewhere between seven and eight minutes. I'll let you know I don't really like to run the mile, but I actually have run a 5K (I know, it's like, three times as long,) and I got in second place in my age category.

I think if I remember the last time I happen to run a mile, I think it took me like around 8-9 minutes to run an entire mile, So I'm not much of a runner, but still, it's a pretty good time though.

I actually don't know actually, due to asthma I can't really run to fast without taking a break, so if I did run a mile so to say I guess it'll take 20 minutes or so I guess.

I can't run at all. I am not in the shape to run. I can walk 20 to 30 miles without stopping, but when it comes to running, I can go only two or three blocks, and it still takes me a couple of minutes just to go that far.

It's tough to buy all these claims at the sub 6:00 mile.  Everyone who gets under six knows their exact time and what they did and how they got there.  It takes some serious athleticism to be a five minute miler.

I ran my fastest mile at 5:49 and it hurt.  Hard.  And I'm a marathon runner.  I do sprints, I play sports, I'm a sprinter in football and baseball and soccer and I can't get down much past six minutes.  It takes tremendous effort.  The folks that say, "Oh, five something, I don't remember" make me call 'liar."  You'd know your time if you broke six.

warmaker :

Tell me about it, classic internet chest bumping perhaps?

-----

As for me, I can run a mile in 4 minutes and 50 seconds. I AM a cross country runner, and it can hurt to run that fast. My goal is to one day get under 4:30. It IS possible, I've seen it done.

I came to this thread hoping to find some encouragement and inspiration.  While I found that, I also am a bit dismayed. I've never felt so out of shape in my life. LOL  You all are making me want to run a mile as fast as I can and see how long it takes me. However, I only have a treadmill to work with.

I know that whenever I jog at a manageable pace, it takes me 10 minutes to run a mile.   Maybe some of you need to help me out. Tell me your trade secrets.

I just did one for gym for physical fitness testing and I got 6:11 and I wasn't even breathing hard. Not my fastest time but I figured I should share that.

Singelli :

Firstly, stretching is key to doing well in any sort of training, so be sure to spend a good 5-10 minutes stretching before you run.

Don't eat anything heavy befire running either, try to eat a snack like a granola bar or something instead.

Always bring water with you, nothing is more important than staying hydrated.

Those are just some of the basics. If you want endurance then try running up hills frequently and it really strengthens your leg muscles and adapts them to moving up terrain other than flat concrete which will seem like nothingnin comparison.

So, I hope this helps! Hopefully you can improve your time with these simple steps!

legacyme3 : No chest bumping here.  I answered the question and I'm sure many of you folks are faster than me.  I'm proud of my time and it took tremendous work and effort to get there.  I think something like a mile time (or any other individual personal record) is important and folks who either fabricate or cheat their times a bit cheapen the whole experience.

If you're sub five, good for you.  4:50 puts you in the top 30 male runners in the entire state of Michigan for high school.

I have to ask: What's your training look like?

Hmm, I don't know the time I can get if I run a mile; I never tried to record myself. But if I would record myself, I think, I would get 5/6 to 10 minutes (well, I think, below 10... ).

I run Cross Country for my high school, and my best mile is a 5:42.  It is not as fast as I want it to be because most of the other sophomores on my team are close to a 5 minute mile.
