The thread title pretty much says it all. If you had a time machine would you mess with the past? Just think, if you had a really embarrassing moment in your life would you change it, of if the was something in history you wanted to see with your own eyes will you do it? Honestly I wouldn't, so what's your answer?

If I had a time machine I wouldn't mess with the past. I've had a lot of embarrassing moments in my life and sometimes I feel like I want to go back in time and prevent them but I know if time travel existed it wouldn't be a good idea and I would still remember those embarrassing moments either way so there's really no point in trying to prevent them.

Man, I have a bunch of reasons why I would say yes. But I'm gonna go with no.

I've had a bunch of embarrassing moments, or moments that just didn't come out right. I wish I could change them. But, why deal with the past like that? That could cause major differences in the present.

I'd rather just fix it in the present, if you know what I mean.

Why would anyone want to do such a thing unless they were psychotic and just hated the Earth and everyone on it I could understand that but I doubt that would ever happen since time machines probably are not gonna be created anytime soon.

Realistically, I would probably save Lincoln. OR I would go to like the 1700's and introduce modern technology to some of the people and see how that unfolds. I'd also go and abduct people from the past, and bring them to right now, and let 'em loose! I don't know why, it just seems funny to me. But I would definitely save some people from assassinations.

I wouldn't interfere with the past, even if you changed one small detail which seemed unimportant it could make changes to our present day community. For example, if you prevented Gavrilo Princips's birth, it may have prevented the Assassination of Franz Ferdinand, which caused World War One...which helped cause World War Two...which led to the splitting of the atom, leading to the Cold War. These three events shaped the recent world as we know it.

B619ook :
Just because of the numerous paradoxes there would be, I'm going to say no.
The main paradox is that if you were to go back and change something in the past, you would be "thrown" back to the future with no recollection of whatever you just did. This is because you would not have the motivation to go back and do it again, as all versions of you must do the same thing, other wise it messes with time lines, as if younger you didn't have that bad thing happen to them, they wouldn't be able to go back and change it from happening, so you at that time couldn't do it.
However there is a current theory that every time a choice is made a parallel universe is created, which makes the possibility of time travel more realistic, for you it would have no gain, making it pointless.
Plus, everything that has happened to me defines me. Life is defined by the lives of others. I'd keep everything in the past as just that. The past. Can't we just try and fix this time instead of other times that have already happened?

I wouldn't change anything, not because there is nothing I won't want to change anything, there is plenty of things I would have liked to do differently but I don't know what the affects of doing it will be.

In my opinion if you had a time machine you couldn't mess with the past even less your past because that would resolve as a paradox that would lead to the time machine never being invented. A good example of this is the movie and book The Time Machine. If you havn't seen it it's about a physicist who loses the woman he loves. After he loses her he builds a time machine and tries to save her a dozen times but everytime she just ends up dying. So if you had a bad or embarrasing moment that you wanted to change and that was part of the reason you were thinking of a time machine that idea would never have been thought and you could never have changed it.

For me, it’ll really depends on what it is, if it’s something that will affect me in a positive way, then yeah, but if it’ll affect me in a negative way, then no.

Simply stated probably not. Even if I went back in time to slap myself to do all those stupid things what good would it do? I wouldn't learn the lessons I know now and I would probably end up killing myself in some strange turn of events. The past happened for a reason and is a good teacher. When we past with our past we mess with the lessons we learn and when we mess with those... well we would just be in worse shape then before we entered the time machine simply put.

I would not mess with the past because even if I did I wouldn't be able to change anything because it has already happened an I already know what has happened as a  result and I know what happened as a result. I don't know if I would try to fix or mess with something that happened to me in the past to begin with because it could just go completely wrong and I am not sure I would want to risk that. So it all really depends on the situation at hand and what I would be going into the past for. Plus, as sable eye said, you would then go to the future with no recollection of what you just did to begin with, so overall, there isn't really much of a point to begin with. So that is my final word on the matter, I don not think I would go back into time and change something that has happened and then go to the future with no recollection of it whatsoever, unless perhaps it is something life changing, otherwise no.

If the universe is like the Many Worlds Interpretation theory which is for every action we do, 2 or more universes appear, each one with a different re-action, than yes. I would change a lot of things, mostly stuff in my life that I didn't like, and stuff from history that went awful. I would also like it to be time travel like from Doctor Who, without fixed points in time or if there are 2 of the same person in one place the universe explodes or something. that way, if I change something that impacts my life a lot, I wouldn't cease to exist or something of the sorts.

That would be awesome, fixing everything bad that has ever happened to you. I know there is a movie about that coming out soon but I forgot the name of it.

If I had a time machine, I won't even try using it to mess with the past. Because I am afraid that it can change whats in the present or even in the future. Plus, I learned from my mistakes already and if I changed the events in the past, I guess I wont learn anything because I didn't fail. If I had a time machine, I would just use it to see my future >.

I would probably want to, but hopefully I would make the correct decision and destroy the time machine. It could be one of the most dangerous weapons ever, even if it could be used for good things too. And of course, there's the butterfly effect.

Actually, I would try to change some of the things I ever did in the past. Or try to see something from the past. These things include embarrassing situations, things that needed to be learnt for a history test, stop some wars from ever anything and a few things just for the fun of it. Although some people wouldn't want to, just in case it will change the future and may concern us, (such as accidentally losing your job. Example: You go to the past. Suddenly, you knock over a cup of hot coffee. "No biggie, you think". But when you go to the future, you have no or a different job because that fatal cup of coffee caused your boss in the past to slip and get major burns. This, in turn, causes some chain reactions that stopped your boss from BEING your boss.) I think of it like "If I go to the past, I already have gone there and there is nothing you or I can do to change it. That means we can do anything in the past and not affect our future whatsoever! But that would mean I cannot change anything, and I could anything I want, and it still will happen. But that would make the time machine obsolete except if you just want to witness something. Weird.
(Sorry this is very long, but that is just my opinion. If this is called spamming, than notify me first so I wouldn't repeat this ever again.)

Well, if I would have one, I would change the things that I made wrong as well as the wrong actions.

In the past, I made a lot stupid and useless things!

Also, I would like to have a time Viz-machine too! I would use it to get back in the past and post more to win a jersey!
Well, if I would have one, I would change the things that I made wrong as well as the wrong actions.

Vizzed.com is very expensive to keep alive! The Ads pay for the servers.

Vizzed has 3 TB worth of games and 1 TB worth of music.  This site is free to use but the ads barely pay for the monthly server fees.  If too many more people use ad block, the site cannot survive.

We prioritize the community over the site profits.  This is why we avoid using annoying (but high paying) ads like most other sites which include popups, obnoxious sounds and animations, malware, and other forms of intrusiveness.  We'll do our part to never resort to these types of ads, please do your part by helping support this site by adding Vizzed.com to your ad blocking whitelist.
