So, as the title says, I am curious, how fast can you throw a baseball? Some places have an area where you can throw a baseball and a machine will record how fast yo threw it. I know this may seem pathetic to you guys, but when I threw it a few years ago at this museum in Louisiana, I think when I was 14, I threw it at 52-53 mph, I don't know how fast I could throw it now, hopefully 55 mph or faster. Enough of my babbling, how fast can you throw a baseball? If you are on a baseball team or you play it, feel free to say so and share how fast you can throw it, I know some can throw it pretty fast!

The last time I tried I was 13 and I think I threw it in the 50s. Maybe high 40s. I don't really remember. I'm sure I can throw it faster now, but I haven't tried.

Last time was probably two years ago, when I was 13. At that time, I threw in the low 60s, so, about 61 to 63 miles per hour. I can throw faster now, though.

I'm by no means a baseball player but I'm an athletic guy.  After a few drinks during a rain delay, I challenged a friend to the speed gun game at Comerica Park.  I wasn't warmed and I hurt my calf and hamstring but I threw (blowing .05) a 62 mph ball.  It was from the wind-up.  I didn't do the run up the gun trick, which is garbage as far as I'm concerned.

I could probably warm up and throw another few mph faster.  That's it.  I don't have the technique.

I used to play baseball when i was younger; I was second baseman though, not a pitcher. But I can still throw pretty fast, usually the mid-50s and lower 60s

I would need a technique though to get it better or faster, but I am estimating if I threw it at 53 mph when I was 14 then I could probably throw it at high 50s to low 60s now. Okay guys, I recently was out last weekend and I went to a museum place that had this machine and I tested how fast I could throw one about 3 r 4 times and here is what I got. I knew I could beat 50 being older than I was when I made about 55.

1st throw: 57
2nd throw: 54
3rd throw: 61
4th throw: 52-55 I don't remember what the last one was exactly but I knew it was somewhere in the mid 50 range.

So I knew I could beat my old speed, so my new speed for throwing a baseball is now 61 mph. Not bad I guess, at least it is faster than my last one.

If I throw a fastball, it can probably go only about 80 miles per hour or so, nothing special. If one day, I was to become a baseball player, I would want to be able to successfully throw a knuckleball. I can throw a good knuckleball maybe 10% of the time, and when I do throw it, it onl;y goes perhaps 60 to 65 miles per hour. I think my arm is to weak to throw anything faster than that, so one of these days, it will probably decide to give up. However I will keep trying to get to 85/70 for as long as I can and then maybe I can learn a few new pitches such as a slider or a curve.

I've only been measured once, but I wasn't warmed up for it and threw out of the radar gun's zone a few times before it was recorded at 41. hehehe... Hey, it was earlier in the year, I'm probably able to throw faster now. I'll have to see once it starts up again.

Mr Nerd: 41 mph isn't that bad, especially considering you threw that at 13. That isn't bad at all, I bet most guys in my gym class at 15 years old cant throw it that fast.

zanderlex : Whoa, 80? I think that is the highest speed in this thread, I could never throw it that fast. That is pretty good man. Keep working at that goal and that percentage should go up. I want to be able to throw it at least 70 mph. I don't play baseball, but that is just a goal that I would want to reach. But 80 is impressive man!
