I think this is a complete waste because on the 3DS you can block the 3D with Parental Controls! I can't believe Nintendo would do something like this. What a waste of money and time!

You've all got good points. I'm still towards it not being necessary a little more, but when you get down into it, it makes sense, too. On the 3DS, you can turn off or block the 3D. But, remember, this is sort of aimed for the younger kids. Naturally, it's cheaper. At rate society's going, kids less than 5 are going to be playing stuff like this. 

Basically, what I'm saying is, as of now, this seems stupid, but in the future, it might not. Just something to ponder before we're all at each others' throats.

The 2ds releases on the same day as pokemon X & Y. Also, just think, mario party is coming out on novermber 22nd which is basically 1 month after the 2ds comes out. Also, look how many games based on kids shows and movies are out or coming out on the 3ds.

I just think it is plain purposeless, mainly because on a 3DS and 3DSXL you can just use parental controls to turn off/block 3D mode or on the top screen there is a slid-y thing-a-ma-bob. 

austipokedude : Not true at all. Kids of all ages are exposed to games younger and younger. This unit provides a perfect entrance into the gaming market without breaking their parents wallets. It also is a durable machine that is more kid friendly than the 3DS models currently out.

Like I said in my previous post with Pokemon set to release, the 2DS gives a PERFECT opportunity to get these kids into that platform at a cheaper price.

All of these things make it not only appealing to the younger audience (whom are not supposed to use the 3D for fear of hurting their eyesight) but also the parents.

Ha! I heard about this. I think it's amazing but Nintendo made this for kids only but we don't care. I would get it if I didn't have a 3DS.

At least they are smart enough to not put a close to a library after about only 100 games.
I am of the opinion that if your system does not have at least 500 games on it then there is no need to update the system or console.

If this device is is just a newer version of the 3.D.S. then the few who want to update from D.S. to 3.D.S. might be able to do so at a cheaper price.

Reminds me of the Plastation 1 releasing a more compact version of itself.
Why did Playststion decide to relaunch its P.S.1 ?

There were console hackers in "pawn shops" back in those days who could jack into a P.S.1 and allow the device to play import games.

For some reason the newer P.S.1. Models could not be hacked in the same manner.

My gut instinct guess on the New 2.D.S. is for similar purposes as the New Playstation 1 of the past.
Either way this is good news for consumers. (So far.)

Nintendo, that is just.. No. Just no. You can do better.

Couldn't they just ad a 2D feature to the 3DS? It would make more sense. Or just update the Nintendo DS. 

This console is a hell of a lot more durable than the regular 3DS, and a hell of a lot cheaper. I'll probably end up buying one so that I don't miss out on any good 3DS games, since I can't afford a 3DS XL.

The console is built for small children. The system is made for a mother's purse or a protective case. The slate design is pretty comfortable looking too. It's a great way to get kids into gaming, and a great thing to have with you if you own a child.

Another of the reasons why it's cheaper is that there's actually 1 screen instead of 2, separated with the plastic, meaning that the 3DS (3D Dual Screens) loses it's 3D, and it's D, leaving an S.

This system will sell well. It has a good future, plus there's no better day to release a system revision than on the day that Pokemon X and Y are released. Good move on Nintendo.

orionfoxgibson : Actually, the firmware and specs for the 2DS, and the 3DSXL are the exact same as the 3DS, anybody can buy an "R4" card and download any game onto their system. It's easily hackable with them. I had a PS1 that played games which could be burned from a computer, lots of fun, it was.

D1998 : It's for children who can't use the 3D. Aside from that, they could be too rough with their systems that open and close. I'd say it's a good idea, considering how easy it was for my 3DS to break.

Plus it's really cheap, so I could just buy a 2DS and I'll be fine. I didn't really use the 3D anyways.

sdslayer100 : Read what I said to D1998. They're selling it for 129 dollars. A lot cheaper than the 250 the 3DS came out with. A 2DS is not the exact same thing as a 3DS. A 3DS has more power and completely different games.

I don't mind the 2ds itself, I mean I understand it leaning toward younger kids as Jordan mentioned, I'm just tired of them updated their systems again (I mean we just got the Wii U last year). I think a better way to make money is to just make more games instead of updating their consoles.

Though again I don't mean to bash the 2ds itself. In fact I might buy one since I don't have a 3ds. It pretty much has all the features the 3ds has (except the 3d), you can play any of the 3ds games on 2ds, and it's cheaper. So maybe those who buy it may not be just for little kids, but also for those who would like to play 3ds games at a cheaper price (like me).

The Nintendo 2DS is made for younger audiences so their eyes will not get strained, as on the 3DS package it specifically says not to give to kids aged 7-.

I'm thinking this idea is lame, but at the same time, it does have some merit. If it'll be cheaper than a 3ds, then it'll be a good deal, since some people can't afford of a 3ds, or don't like the idea of the 3d (like myself) but want to play some of the games (again, like me). Who knows, it could work.

This is, like, mega crazy. A 3DS without the 3D mode... I hardly even use the 3D mode on my 3DS, so that would be pretty nifty for me. Then again, I sometimes use the 3D.
