How many comic books do you own?

I own around 20, not much of a collection, but then again, I'm not much of a collector for them.

alexanyways : I think I have about 5 comic books from the 80s when I was a little kid.  None of them are superhero comics; in fact, I think one of them is about Heathcliff the cat

I have 2 long boxes and 2 short boxes that are full. I'm an Iron Man fan but I have quite a variety of other titles too. There have been some good reads and a great  amount of amazing artwork that I have stumbled across over the years.

Good read + good art =  Supergod
This is a wraparound cover for one of the 5 issues in this mini-series from writer Warren Ellis, artist Garrie Gastony and Avatar Press.

Another good read + good art = Kingdom Come

This is wraparound cover for one of the 4 issues in this mini-series from writer Mark Waid, artist
ALEX ROSS, and DC comics. Every last page in each of the 4 issues is painted by the legendary Alex Ross. A must see!

The most valuable comic in my collection is Iron Man #1

It's not the first appearance of Iron Man (that would be Tales of Suspense #39), but it's the first time Iron Man got his own title. In it's current condition, mine is worth $80-100 retail.

I don't really actively collect anymore. I'm a little discouraged with the variant cover scam that all of the publishers are running. A #1 in a hot title isn't really worth much anymore. The variants that are 1:5000 or 1:10000 are what end up being the most valuable but there are no prices listed on those issues by the publisher because they are special incentive comics offered to the retailers. The retailer gets 1 variant per so many standard issues. The lack of pricing means that the retailer can charge whatever they deem the issue to be worth at the "newsstand". So, a comic book store might charge upwards of $100 for a brand new variant. This takes all of the fun out of collecting and turns the hobby into a rich mans game.

Also, there are so many titles to choose from nowadays but each separate issue can cost anywhere from $2.99 to $7.99. If you like to read many different titles, the price tag can add up quickly.
