xandermartin98 : Well everyone is entitled to have their very own opinion. In my case I think Mario and Zelda are two very distinguished games and should not be compared. Mario is not stuck in a single game-type, such as adventure or puzzle, it always brings something new and innovative to the public. As an example, Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, Super Mario Galaxy, those are very different games each with very different gameplay, the only common thing between them is having Mario's characters in it.

That being said, Zelda is going towards a linear history and a very similar gameplay between each game it releases, you can easily compare Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword, etc. All of them have a similar objective, completing dungeons to get stronger, do various puzzles doing side-quests that will lead you to your prime objective.

 I think Zelda because of the plot and puzzles, it also changes more than Mario

I would like to say Mario. There seems to be a steady stream of Mario games that come out very frequently, while new Zelda games pop in here and there. I think Mario games are consistent, and to many, that may be the reason they dislike Mario. Bowser keeps capturing Peach...I think many find that repetitive and lacking in creativity...very lackluster. I have no problem with it, but I cannot speak for others. 

I see many people liking Zelda a lot due to their craving of good RPGs. Mario does not compare to Zelda in those terms. Zelda is much more expansive and more in depth, while you race around in karts and go across the galaxy in Mario. 

Both series are wonderful, but I really think Mario is just a tad more popular.

Zelda is the obvious winner, at least in my opinion, because it's more battle oriented, and you can take it seriously. I can't take a dinosaur that sucks in mushrooms with legs with his tongue and can give birth to eggs that explode on contact and never give birth to baby dinosaurs. 

I would say Mario. I could never get into the Zelda games.

well the title says zelda or mario but i have played mario games ever since i was a kid and loved the franchise up until now it hold so many memories i wish i had paper mario and super mario 64 also the original pixel mario game i think its called super mario bros the first but yeah now to zelda i have never played zelda but on super smash bros i know that link is from it so far i like link so i guess zelda is a good franchise and game series i should start playing zelda trying new games is the best well great thread xander i will probably soon start playing zelda games and yeah for now i think mario is the best i respect your guys opinions i dont judge people so yeah i dont care if you say zelda is better i wont get offended i dont hate or like to fight please make sure to read my post i dont like to be ignored by everyone so i would really apreciate if i could get a reply by the people who read my post i will gladly thank you for the ones who do 

I really like both Zelda and Mario. To me, they are great games and I enjoyed playing them in my childhood. However, I am going to go with Mario because I played Mario games more and I still play them. I haven't played a Zelda game in a really long time.

This is a pretty hard choice.. Even though I mostly played Sonic, I have also played mario and zelda before... But I would say mario I guess.. It's more of a simple and fun game for me in my opinion I guess...

I think that Link is much braver and cooler than Mario and he can probably fight a lot better.  I agree that Zelda games have a greater impact because they are more exciting in my opinion, you level up and get stronger as you explore areas and fight monsters, while in Mario you don't really do that. 

So, even though I really like them both, I am going to agree with what you originally said and I am going to say that I like Zelda games more than Mario games because they are just cooler and you explore more than in a Mario game. I really agree with you in the aspect that they should bring back Metroid, and yeah pokemon has gone on long enough in my opinion. 

I am going with Mario because It got me into gaming and made who I am and hope that people would be into  Mario .Zelda is okay but I just getting use to the series because I'm new to the Legend of Zelda .

I would have to go with Zelda.
There are a ton of things in the first game that are pioneering.
The first thing that comes to mind is the freedom.
Most games were side scrollers. Meaning you were stuck in one particular puzzle in a very specific time in any place in the game.
With Zelda?
You could take a break from any puzzle and come back to it.
That was the cool part about it.
No timer or score to keep track of. Just push buttons and have fun.
The way a game should be if you are just starting out.
Today, In the 3.D. world of games?
Different Story.
You may have to memorize an entire level just to forget about it the next day due to the info being useless.
With Mario you memorize a ton an forget the next day all the time.
But.
With Zelda?
You memorize a section and return to it with a couple of upgrades and you find something new.
A reward for your troubles with memorizing.

They both are in games I really enjoy, find engrossing, and just fun to play so I would have to say it would depend on what mood I'm in that day.  Today I say Zelda because I'm in the mood for something more melodramatic with a nice tense atmosphere.  If I were in more of an arcade style or lighter mood, which happens as often as not, then I'd say a Mario game.

As Mascots go, I think Mario is probably more casual gamer friendly, so probably the more popular choice. 

As far as plots go, both Mario and Link are attempting to save a princess in one way or another. Except Mario gets there by jumping on the heads of his enemies, whilst Link slices his to shreds with a sword. Link sacrifices his ability to jump 10 feet in the air to wield a shield and sword, which makes the gameplay that much better. Zelda was really the first FPS I played as well(as far as bows, boomerangs and slingshots are concerned. I lived and breathed Zelda as a kid, and I never really got that much into Mario, it just never intrigued me that much.

So I have to go with Zelda      

I like both but I prefer Mario better. I like non-violent games so Zelda is much of killing enemies with a sword and Mario just jumps making it non-violent.
