What happens to the Chaos Emeralds when Sonic/Shadow/whoever turns into their sup/hyper form? Sonic has to keep finding them every game (mostly), so I think that the emeralds act like the Dragon Balls. After use, they scatter all over the world. I mean, Sonic needs them by the end of (most of) his games, so it wouldn't make sense if he was the one scattering them.

J3wFr0 : lol, In many ways, Sonic the hedgehog is like Dragon ball Z. When Sonic goes super, it's as if goku goes super saiyan. When Sonic goes hyper, it's as if goku is going super saiyan 2 and the chaos emeralds are like dragon balls except in dragon ball z, they would use dragon balls to make a wish while Sonic uses Chaos emeralds to go super/hyper. 

Also to answer your question, in my opinion, yes it probably would make more sense if Sonic was the one to scatter them, however to make it more interesting, it would be better if Sonic wasn't the one to scatter them. Usually to make things interesting, they would make things not make so much sense so that way it will be more interesting. .

I never actually thought Chaos Emeralds to be like Dragon Balls I thought of them to be just ordinary emeralds I never went into to much detail with them.

But you bring up a good point, they are very similar in the way they are used, even though goku doesn't need the dragon balls to go super saiyan and he can maintain it longer whereas sonic needs rings to keep up his super form.

It wouldn't make much sense if sonic was the one separating the emeralds, but I guess they make it like that to keep it more interesting. But yes you have a point with this. Also I always thought sonic was similar to goku personality wise as shadow is to vegeta. Sonic is layed back whereas shadow is cold and serious like vegeta. Just another similarly.

It's pretty simple in my mind, the same reason on why Goku goes super saiyan. Well, when Sonic gets all 7 Emeralds, its pretty close to becoming super saiyan without copying the franchise.

Yea they scatter, OR they get sent to people that could protect them, but that doesn't even make any sense because the ones that could protect them are the ones that use them before they scatter. The power if drained out of them during the use of them, as seen in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle. Go Hyper Shadow !!!
