What is the best starting Pokemon out of all the generations?
Personally I really like cyndaquil, totodile and Mudkip but I am curious as to what others think?
This is my first thread so be nice and its casual so just chill...

Okay, here we go again. Favorite starter. Just picking a starter is hard to do. But having to pick from 18 Pokémon, that is pretty hard to do. Okay, I'll start with Gen 1 which is Red/Green/Blue/Yellow. My favorite starter is ... Squirtle!!!!


Okay, for Gen 2/4 which is Gold/Heart Gold/Silver/Soul Silver. My favorite starter is ... Cyndaquil!!!!

Now for Gen 3 which is Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. My favorite starter is ... Torchic!!!!

For Generation 4 which is Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. My favorite starter is ... Turtwig!!!!

For Gen 5 which is Black/Black 2/White/White 2. My favorite starter is... Tepig!!!!

For Generation 6 which is X/Y. My favorite starter is ... Fennekin!!!!

Overall, my favorite starter is ...... Squirtle!!!!!!!!

Well the best starter really depends on what generation of Pokémon we are talking about, for first generation to me Squritle was the best because he had the type advantage over most gyms and he could learn alot of HM & TM moves, second generation I would say cyndiquil because I found that a fire type would have the advantage over most of the gyms, third generation  well Its a 3 way draw for me, I found them all good with stats and move set, fourth generation again a stale mate I found them all to be good, fifth generation I found either snivy or oshawoot to be the best because of there abilities and move sets and they had the type advantage most of the time.

My favorite starter is Mudkip. My very first pokemon of my own EVER was a Mudkip. Also, a Swampert was my very first level 100.

All the starters from the 1st 2 generations:

Bulbasaur: Grass and Poison type. This is the only starter that evolves into it's 3rd stage early at level 32.

Charmander : It's move set along with the TM and HM moves it learns have variety. Plus, as Charizard, flying moves are added along with fighting and ground types.

Squirtle: My most favorite starter ever. Blastoise with those cannons on his back.

pikachu : Mostly for its speed.

Chikorita: Never really used this much in the game because most of the Johto gym leaders.

Cyndaquil: Used this every game. Has good speed, and Sp. Attack.

Totodile: Never really used this 1 much, but really like it's final evolution.

Being that the only Pokemon game I have is Generation 1 Yellow, I always start with Pikachu. Now while Pikachu is only really good against one Gym Leader(Misty) and can only be evolved if traded, you get all 3 of the starter Pokemon from Red and Blue(Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle). Not to mention catching and training a level 7 Mew does have its benefits.

A charizard has great stats that are a bit powerful I guess and it can learn fly making it the best starter out of all.

I would have to say squirtile. From the first Gen because he is just so powerful and amazing. 

Kanto: Squirtle. Charizard is overrated and sucks, this turtle's where it's at!

Johto: Chikorita. This is probably my sole opinion but I like it the best.

Hoenn: Torchic. Blaziken is bad ass and so powerfull.

Sinnoh: Turtwig. Torterra is powerfull and just looks amazing!

Unova: Neither. They all have their ups and downs. I don't like any of them that much. I usually ditch them.

Calros (or whatever it's called, something like that): From what I've seen so far, Fennekin. It looks the best and it has the best moves (from what we have seen) This might change however.

And my top 5 starters are: 5- Typhlosion 4- Blastoise 3- Blaziken 2- Torterra 1- Meganium.

It all really depends on what you want the best out of, like for kanto if you want defense then blastoise is the best because it is a defensive tank making it the best of them for that purpose, I will just go by the ones I have used:



Kanto: Blastoise: I always thought he was good and you can take out both of the other starters if you have the right moves like, hydro pump takes care of charizard and ice beam or any ice type move takes care of venusaur.

Johto: I like cyndaquil, he has good speed and sp attack which as a typhlosion at max can be 348. totodile would be my 2nd choice because I like feraligatr a lot too.

Hoenn: Torchic: Blaziken is really powerful and awesome, it has great speed and attack.


Sinnoh: I like empoleon, it is a good water type and it has great moves and great sp attk and defense

Unova: I guess I would say snivy, that is the only one I have used and serperior is pretty good and has sludge bomb. Don't really have that much experience with the unova starters, this is the only one I have used and I guess it is pretty good

arrgghh  this is difficult....but i guess Mudkip would be simple though i love Chikorita (mainly for Meganium) but then again there's Squirtal and other choices....yep mudkip is the best i have to stick by that!!

There is no best starter. Each one is suited towards different things.

In Gen1, Venusaur had Leech Seed, Toxic, Sleep Powder and such. It was made to be a status nightmare.

Blastoise had access to a wide variety of TM/HM and could learn Ice Beam and Surf, both of which to combat the other starters. He is very versatile.

Charizard has great Attack and Sp. Attack, along with speed. This makes him an excellent offensive sweeper.

In Gen 2,

Once again, Meganium the grass type was a staller. With impressive Defenses and Health, along with Leech Seed and Synthesis, she was a bit tanky.

Typhlosion, in Gold and Silver, could learn Thunderpunch, eliminating his Water weakness. He was strong, leading him to be the offense in this region.

Feraligatr had impressive Attack stat, unfortunately that would'nt come into use really until Gen 4 but still. He also could learn some of the elusive Dark moves.

In Gen 3:

Swampert was pretty even in stats, and his dual typing made him only weak to Grass. He was extremely versatile and learned a large range of moves to cover many weaknesses.

Blaziken was great with his Fire/Fighting type, allowing him to physically or specially attack many many types.

Sceptile was blindingly fast, and with Leaf Blade and Leech Seed he could be difficult to play against.

Any of the Hoenn or Sinnoh starters have the most powerful and useful final evolutions. Swampert, Blaziken, Infernape, Sceptile, Torterra, Empoleon, all excellent Pokemon.

I think that Totodile is the best starter because it has high attack, high defense, and a lot of other great stats. It can also learn all the moves that are super effective against your rival, and against the Elite Four!

I like mudkip because his evolved forms are immune to electric thanks to them also been ground types, this makes life a lot easier as it only has one weakness and that is grass so it is easy to build a team around him with few weaknesses and a lot of strengths.
