A good friend of mine by the name of Richard was robbed. Here is the link to the news interview.
http://tristatehomepage.com/fulltext/?nxd_id=606952
He said that he chased down the robbers and jumped over a fence to get to them and they tossed his wallet back at him but they got away.
What would you do in the same situation?
I would pull out my glock .45 that i carry (i have my gun permit) and shoot to kill.

bloodyb :
The idea of me getting robbed is not really likely.
I don't carry a gun.
I have one in my home and that's about it. Every now and again I have it in my car.
On Foot.???
I am fairly good at keeping myself alive and functioning.
I would probably mercilessly beat the assailants to near death.
I work hard every day and I earn every penny I score.
A bum asking for change is one thing.
A couple of punks wanting cash for their ... whatever. (Drugs most likely.)???
I have grown very cold when it comes to muggers. (Sue me.)
Many have a great excuse for loosing cash. I do not have much of any excuse.
I just can not report having a lack of cash when I come home from a hard days of work.
Old-fashioned I guess.
I Wish Everyone Luck Anyway.

Peace.

My town is pretty desperate right now and people breaking into house's and robberies are at a all time high.
In Evansville you have a pretty good chance of being robbed in this economy so it is not as unthinkable as you might think.
So your answer to what you would do is beat the robbers to a bloody pulp? Nice answer.
I have a zero tolerance for robberies also because my home was broken into when i was a little kid so that is why i wouldn't
think twice about killing a robber.

So far I have been gotten away with it just standing my ground. By this I mean I have never been asked to give away my money, but I know I have been been sized up as a probable mark. I have nothing worth robbing ever on me and if I have been intoxicated, I have given the "crazy person feel" that makes people think twice, if getting stabbed by me instead is worth the five euros. So far it has worked but you never know. Usually it works like they if they are unsure about you, they come to ask for a cigarete or if they are more bold, to use your phone to "call for a friend/mom/taxi". Especially in this case I just tell them to f off. If they have gotten angry, I have told them to look for somebody that has something actually worth taking.

Besides people around here don't rob people at gun point. They rob supermarkets or kiosks or other small businesses with them. Robbing passerbys they just beat you up and take what they wish. Knock on wood, I have never had an actual guns pointed at me and not many I think have in ordinary street robberies. You might get to see a flash of a knife maybe but not actual firearms. Thanks to the gun control.

But you never know. You might get shot or stabbed by just looking the part in a wrong way to somebody high or crazy any day on the street.

Oh and that reminds me. I have been once a  victim of an almost 100% pickpocket skill. These two Somali guys sat next to me in a bar and after one minute of conversation managed to pull every piece of paper out of the pockets of my pants without by me noticing. The conversation was pretty much that no, I don't have drugs nor I have interested in getting any. Luckily all I had in my pockets were just old receipts and phone numbers. But I didn't notice they were pulled out all over my seat until they were gone. I knew well enough to not keep my wallet in the pockets of my pants anyway but after they were gone, I had to admire how they did it. I was suspicious but never did I feel a thing.

What would I do if I was getting robbed? I would go hide in a random place were no one would find me and call 911. I would have no idea what would happen if they caught me.

Good topic, I would try to be firm and honestly I don't really have the experience of it though, like Brigand said, it is not gun to face kind of robbery, it is more of just robbing kiosks and stores for money.

Bloody b: That is so terrible to hear, it sucks to have memories and experience those kinds of things at such a young age. I am with you 100% I have no tolerance for people that steel and break into other peoples homes.

I would avoid bums and people that just ask for money at gunpoint at just random people, or a store, probably to go spend on crack and cocaine and get high in an alley somewhere. I hate all of it so much, makes me sick the way the world has changed. God sent his son to rid all of people's sin, and this is what happens every day in America, that really is a nice thank you isn't it?

I know what you should do and what I would do are two different things, most likely.

What you should do when you are in a robbery situation is to give the robber what he or she wants so that they'll go away without harming you. That's the idea, at least, and most of the time, this suffices.

But I have a problem.

Normally, I'm mild-mannered and I do my best to live by the Christian lifestyle I am commanded. Perhaps one day this will change, but I believe that if I'm faced in a robbery scenario, I'll probably try to fight, against my better judgment. Why would I do that?

Well, I understand the value of money. In another thread I posted that I wish I could stop worrying about money, and that's true, but I do not believe I could sit by and let someone willingly take the money that I poured a lot of heart and sweat into earning. I don't know, though. If I could manage a calm demeanor, separating my own desire to keep my money with the fact that risking my life isn't worth it, then I might just give up the money without a problem. I don't see why I couldn't do that. But I never hope to be in that situation.

Unfortunately, I have been robbed before. Someone broke into my apartment while I was out for a few minutes and started taking things. The door had a slight jam, and I wiggled it some. They must have heard me, because they scampered out the sliding glass door to our patio right when I got inside. I saw the TV and the Xbox gone, along with my Wii from my room and my friend's PSP. I was fortunate, though, because my very expensive laptop that I used for school was sitting on my bed. Let me tell you something, when I found out I had been robbed, I went OFF. I immediately called the cops, called my roommate, and when the cops got there, I asked them the legality of me killing them if I was in the apartment. He told me that if I felt threatened, it probably would be permitted.

In hindsight, though, I realize that them running off meant that they weren't going to do anything. I know it was at least two guys because our TV was too large for one to carry, and if they both ran, then I don't think they would have put up a fight had I caught them. And as hot-buttoned as I was back then, I think I would have done something I seriously regretted had I caught them in the act. As fate would have it, I was seconds too late, and I didn't register we had been robbed until after I went in my room. I'm glad I didn't catch them that day, because I probably would have killed someone. Even had I not gotten in trouble legally, I know for a fact that my life would be a wreck, because at the time, I was in no place to deal with an emotional situation like that.

Thank God for that, right?

But I still don't know how I'd react today if I caught them. My blood, sweat, and tears really mean a lot to me. I work hard, work often, and really care about what I do. To have someone steal some of the things that I worked so hard to earn is beyond me. It's not fair, but sometimes that is life. I know that ultimately, you reap what you sew, and I'll be better off because of it.

Why did we have to bring Jesus into thIs? Or being of any religion? Just say you are not willing to fight.

If there was a robbery, most likely it would be at my house because I go nowhere else most of the time, and I would shoot the robbers in the legs, and beat them with my baseball bat in the legs.

I think you should be able to attack intruders to your home... ( not shot them and kill them )
My sister recently had her boiler stolen... so yeah... Robbery is wrong and always has been.

In the state of Indiana if somebody breaks into your home you can kill them as long as you kill them with two blows, stabs, gun shots or what ever else. But there is no self defense law so basically if somebody comes up and hits you and you fight back you will still go to jail.
I do not know if it is like that in other states but i find it messed up that somebody can come into your house with guns pointed at you and you only have two shots to kill them once they back away.

It's easy for everyone to say, "Oh, I would do such and such," if they've never been in a situation.  Firing a pistol while under stress, while you're moving and the target is moving, while you're having a gun pointed at you, changes everything.  It's not a range.  It's different.  Some people react beautifully and save strangers from burning car wrecks or airplanes or whatever.  Some crumple, curl up, and lose.  You can't ever know until you've done it a few times.

Saying that, I wouldn't put myself in that situation.  Survival is about good decision making.  Stay in well-lit areas, stay away from alleys, don't be alone if possible, don't be drunk if possible, and  be aware of your surroundings.  If you do those things, you'll be less likely to be robbed.  Folks are targets of opportunity based on their situational awareness.  Even things like leaving doors open while you're outside and doing yardwork make you more likely to be hit for robbery.

What would I do?  I don't know.  I like to think I'm smart enough and trained enough to react well.  I have never been robbed.  I have no idea what would happen.

warmaker :

Your right it is hard to know what you would do until you are in that situation and if you are capable of reacting under stress.
I can say that i truly believe that i will be able to react the way i say that i would because i have gone through some training.
My father is a vietnam vet. He was in the Airforce Military police. He has a lot of battle experience and has taught me a lot about
fighting in life or death experience. I can call my shots with a pistol and can keep my calm under pressure and i also can disarm somebody
with a knife and fight perfectly with a sword. The worse thing about sword fighting is the vibrations the blade makes.

I have experienced two robberies the first been an attempted mugging the second been a burglary. The mugging happened when I was 12, I was on my bike cycling when I noticed I was been followed so I decided to take a sharp turn over rough ground and picked up speed I turned back to check and there werw 3 lads aged about 14. I knew the area well as did they so I decided the only way to get out safely was to fight back but there was no was I could take on 3 guys twice my size so I made them split up to try and cut me off. I used the narrow alleyway to my advantage and lifted the back wheel off the ground , the first guy slowed down too fast and went over the handlebars before my wheel hit him. I then tried to head home but one of them did cut me off, for some strange reason he got off the bike as did I but I had no imtention of handing over my bike instead I aimed a kick in his family jewls then hit min in the side of the temple to give me a min to leg it. I managed to get home and get them nicked. Since then I have been called the karate kid. The burglary was when I was 14, this time I caught him as he was going out of the window but I wasn't quick enough and he got away with a ps2 about 160 games (including ps1 gameboy and ds) a laptop and about 79 videos.
