classicgames : If you press f2 on your keyboard, it should say save state saved at the bottom left corner. This is your saved data. To load it, press f4 on you keyboard. It's the same thing for most games in the RGR also. It will only say "save state saved" for SNES games though.

You could just try the in-game save. Chrono Trigger was built to save and load games normally, being a RPG. Go to the menu screen (in the game itself) and I think the last icon is Data, which is where you would go to save. Note that you can only save on the World Map or at Save Points via this method.

As for save states, it's possibly your configuration got messed up somehow and your save state button got re-assigned.

classicgames : As was said before a lot of computers have an Fn key because the F keys are tied to more than one function. Depending on what kind of computer you have you could google to find out where your FN key is.

The instructions I gave are how to assign a key to be your save state key. It won't save the state. You still have to hit the key in-game (as in while the game is running, NOT while you are in the Esc menu). Though you should also be able to save from the menu itself just by picking that option.
