I recently bought a PS3, I chose it because of the past I had with muy PSone, but with these years on Youtube, with friends, or with sites like Gamespot the majority use Xbox 360. People I know, reviews I've seen and walkthroughs are on XBox and I'm always asking myself why? I have search on the web (yahoo answers and forums) and people chose them because it has Halo, Gears of Wars and two other franchises. However Sony has more franchises than Microsoft, (E.g Playstation Battle Royale, there even miss some franchsises). Another example is that is cheap, well yes, the console is quite of cheap, but is not a big difference, moreover games cost the same 60 $ for a brand new game. Other say that it has better graphics, but come on, PS3 has a Blu Ray player and the games are on a good quality, despite the Xbox that uses a DVD players to reproduce DVD games. And the difference is small. Other say that Xbox live is better than PSN, and yes is something that Sony has to improve, but certainly I don't see why people prefer spending hours on multplayer (although a good majority of gamers are COD players and play days on multpiplayer). And finally, people prefer XBOX because of the controll, XBOX controller is more confortable and some(minor) people say that.  In conclusion there are many, and some good reasons why people play on XBOX, and the answer is long and hard to explain, and maybe you may help me to understand, only for people who decide between XBOX and Playstation, and chose XBOX, why did you take the XBOX? Because of the XBOX live? Because of Halo and Gears of Wars Franchises? Because it was cheaper? 

earthwarrior : Yes, you can. I think that the main reason is because of Halo and other xbox 360 exclusive games. However, Sony has some too. I wonder if it's because with the 360, you can link your phone to it...

Yes I think the same more with COD and their fanbase. ANd not only gamers, also developpers prefer xbox because is cheap to make a game to XBOX and then export them to PS3(From DVD to Blu Ray). Like COD, the XBOX version has a small advantage visually than the PS3 version, and other developpers are doing the same like Capcom. 

I am for the Wii, the games are more interesting than others

In Gaming Society the three main consoles are basically set up into three categories

Hardcore: Playstation is seen as a hardcore console because of the lack of kiddie games and an overflow of M rated games compared to other consoles 

Middle Of The Road: Xbox is seen as a middle of the road console because of the good amount of M rated games and kiddie games i think the middle ground is great for reviewers because they want a console that has all those elements and not just one or the other.  I also heard that some reviewers at gamespot or IGN actually have preferences to play on a certain console.

Kiddie: The Wii is known for it's flagship series' such as mario, Metroid and Mega man and they don't (usually) have very popular 3rd party games on the wii compared to Xbox which almost all of it's developers are independently owned and operated and Playstation where they own something like 26 studio. The reason most reviewers don't use the wii is because the wii doesn't have as many big releases they never really get the GTAs or the Elder Scrolls or Fallout so reviewers can't use it 

I dont actualy agree with the listed benefits of xbox.
This thread has been made too many times for me to bother going into detail so id just say north america is the only continent where 360 has outsold ps3.
In europe and asia, ps3s outnumber xbox.
To that extent, i think many americans buy it because its american. Its sales are pitifull in japan.

The 360 truly only sells in the U.S. and since a lot of people's friends here buy the system, then they buy the system. I feel that the main reason for them liking the console is because of Halo, though personally I feel that Halo is over-rated. I don't really agree with all of those points, especially the piece about the controller. I prefer the Dualshock controller, as it feels far more comfortable for me (though with a controller it is all personal preference). The only way a multiplatform game would look better on the 360 is because the game was developed for that and then ported to the PS3. Truly, the only reason the 360 sells well is because a lot of people in the U.S. spend boat loads of money on the entertainment industry and friends get their friends to buy the system. (I have seen this happen, many people base their choice based upon how many of their friends have the console).
