Mr Gimmick?
The U.S. never saw it till the emulators of the internet in 1998 were refined and not corrupted.
Beyond that the character is too cute. (Like Kirby game Cute.)
The Music is Good. (Thanks to a fancy Chip instalment in the cartridge.)
The play is very similar to Mario Brothers.
The Level design is close to Mario 3 and Megaman...Any number.

The number one thing I hate about this game is the fact that it was Region Locked for unknown reasons. (Only a Japan release and a ... Get this... Scandinavia. Scandinavia?)

I equate this to the same odd Nonsense that surrounds Final Fantasy 5 Not getting a U.S. release or the more recent Onchanbara Z Kagura Being Secluded to Japan only.

(Though with Oncanbara we can guess it had to do with poor reviews of the first game that were not really deserved. As in Bought. If Hot chicks in games were a problem we would not have Dead Or Alive .. anything. Particularly the Beach Volley Ball Series.)

The same kind of Monopoly Power Plays by Business Men may have resulted in Mr. Gimmick not getting a U.S. release.
And That makes me love the game.

If it was not that and it had something to do with Japan Doubting Americans Intelligence again (Like the reasons we Did not See Final Fantasy 5.)???
I would instantly hate the game for being a product of People that have zero problem restraining low and insulting ideas of its consumers.

What does a people gotta do to get some respect around here?

That's as good as It gets for me to express that emotion for a product that I have not the time to try.
