Surprised no one has posted of this yet. If you are on east cost of the United States, there is a very good chance you will be soon visited by Hurricane Sandy, or perhaps you already have been visited? The Caribbean has already had 58 fatalities due to it. Here is a link for a little more info on it. http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18563_162-57541749/millions-brace-for-hurricane-sandys-wrath/ I faced hurricane Irene last year, and it was the worst hurricane I ever experienced. That is not saying much in comparison to other major hurricanes like hurricane Katrina, but we never had as much problems compared to this one; my sister's basement room got flooded just enough that it ruined her carpet and anything that was on it. We lost power for 24 hours which was really bad for my parents who have Multiple Sclerosis; the humidity was making my mother so out of it, she had to stand outside in the hurricane to feel cool again (obviously when the winds were not as bad). Luckily, our neighbors and friends were very helpful; friend of my father's owns a huge storage freezer so we could store our frozen goods there. Upstairs (two-family house) and next door neighbors gave us extra ice to hold our refrigerated goods. My cousin and her husband let me stay at their place while my sister went to her boyfriend's and my parents rented a motel that had air condition. It was a rough day moving things around, trying to save food and goods, cleaning up the mess... I hope that Hurricane Sandy is just being overblown, and we will not have as rough a time as we did with Irene. We are supposed to get the worst of it on Monday, but the downpour starts tomorrow. Might be without power again, not positive, but I am charging my laptop, cell phone, Nintendo 3DS, and even my Nintendo DS in preparation. May even put some videos on my laptop in case I want to watch something. Have two flashlights in my room just in case, and even an old battery powered walk-man with a radio in case I need news updates; that helped me out last year when our power went out. Got to hear how other places in my state were handing the problem. Is anyone else going to be experiencing it? Already have? If so, how are you making preparations, or what did you experience? Perhaps just share your experience on how you handled hurricanes in the past or other natural disasters if you will not be experiencing this one. I am just hoping this will turn out as just another media-hyped storm that turns out to be nothing more than a rain storm. And I hope I do not have to go to work on Monday if it is bad; I rather not be stuck there or have to drive in the weather if I do not have to. Sounds like this one is bad. I'm nowhere near it, but it looks like I have some relatives near where it might hit. How big is it supposed to be anyway? Sounds like this one is bad. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it does not look like people are exaggerating the potential threat this storm has. Hurricane Sandy will be colliding with a high pressure front from Greenland, a winter storm/low pressure front from the west, and the jet stream from the north. Although meteorologists are a bit unsure what the exact path of this storm will be, the majority of predictions say it is going to hit my area --the Susquehanna Valley-- right on the head. Personally, I think my area will suffer like it did last year with Tropical Storm Lee but with more wind this time. With the huge mixture of storms forming into one, some people are thinking about The Perfect Storm from 1991.
Mom is already out of the house visiting relatives, so that leaves five of us here at home. I assume my parents have already stocked up on food as necessary. They also got our oil lamps prepped for a power outage. Although everyone else is at church right now, I'm hanging out at home --because I would not have been ready on time-- and taking care of the laundry so we have clean clothes. I think I might turn off the mobile data for my cell phone in case power goes out. I figure that out later. Mom is already out of the house visiting relatives, so that leaves five of us here at home. Yup I'm right in Hurricane Sandy's crosshairs. Had to rake up all the leeves that fell from the trees cause with the wind that they are forcasting, it could look bad. I'm hoping that a couple of trees near my house don't fall over and crush my house. The good news is I'm not going to school tomarrow. Yup I'm right in Hurricane Sandy's crosshairs. AuraBlaze : Yeah, my area is getting less rain it sounds like, but some big winds will be the big problem. People think my entire state is going to lose power, but this is coming from the panicking masses. More likely, it will play out as Irene did where a few sections will lose power, but that is it. Funny thing though, I hear the NJ and NY train stations are going to be closed for the next two days just because they both have a state of emergency. Good luck to you and your family. Let us know how things go for you. If I lose power, I plan to write about it once power comes back. Right now we have plenty of water, batteries for flash lights set, always have candles around so that will not be much a problem, and windows taped to lower wind impact on them. ruesen : I haven’t experienced this storm but living down south I have experienced many storms and was actually in a car during Hurricane Charlie years back. I am from New York originally and have family, friends, and colleagues of mine sprinkled throughout the northeast so I am very concerned about this storm that their going to be dealing with.
It has been unusually hot for this time of year where I am so I was hoping at minimum we’d get a day or two of rain as this storm was turning up to the north but we are going to get a couple of days of less humidity and cooler nights so it’s not all bad. I just wish that we had an adequate season of cold weather here like there is up north and in other parts of the country. The weather here tends to bounce. Either we’ll get one or at most a couple of days of cool to moderately cold weather (During months when it’s actually suppose to be cold) but then it tends to warm back up to spring or summer-like weather pretty quick. It can do a job on your allergies and often does mine. To anyone who is up north please be careful over the next couple of days. God bless. On a more serious note, I have never experienced any serious hurricane myself, other than some kinda weak storm that was hyped up by the media for weeks, but I can imagine how bad stuff gets with winds like that. Guess I can consider myself lucky I'm over here in Naziland and don't need to worry about anything exciting, ever!

My work wanted me to come in early today to get a head start on things before the real bad weather hits. I was out on Friday too because I was having arm pains so I feel bad for not going in, but we are in a state of emergency right now and the governor is telling us to stay off the roads too. The weather itself is not so bad right now but I am more worried for after work, or being in a trailer with high winds tossing things around. Now I am worried they might fire me because I have only been with them for a month and you can only miss so many days (this would be the second), but I also do not think they can because it is a state of emergency. It's odd that this is what I need to be worried about for a Hurricane. Hurricane Sandy hasn't hit my area yet, but already the weather outside looks kinda depressing and the wind is starting to pick up a bit. Luckly I got food, water, a flashlight, and a 2 hour computer battery so I can play Vizzed for about 2 hours lol. But in all seriousness I have a job interview today at 3:00 EST and I really don't want to go since the weather is depressing, but I'm gonna suck it up and go (I didn't bother going to school since I'm not doing anything important and I could always make up my work). The only concern I have is that their are two trees REALLY close to my house and if they fall over, they'll crush my house (and maybe my car). Pokefreak219 : It is very admirable of you and your family to take in strays to keep them safe. Last year with Hurricane Irene, a cat managed to survive the storm by hunkering down in our bushes, which we took to feeding and helping find a home for later. My father got us a generator that can keep our fridge and freezer going for awhile, so our food should be good, and we have a gas stove for food preparation should power go out. A good idea for those with electric stoves to make food in preparation, probably food that you can eat cold would be good, such as pizza or meatloaf (unpleasant but not bad), as well as cook and eat anything that might spoil really fast. Last year with Irene, we had to finish all of our lunch meat really quickly when the power went out., since that would not carry well. Luckily, that is good to eat without cooking. As for your school, maybe you can contact your professor(s) ahead of time about hurricane Sandy to let them know the situation, just in case power does go out. Some may be lenient, or give you a small extension on anything that may be due. Even if the online school is automated, someone needs to be in charge somewhere that you could contact about that. I do hope your father will be all right. Do any of you have cell phones? They should be all right for a little while after power goes out; news reports claim cell towers have an automatic backup generators to let them last awhile (mainly verizon, but some other cell providers too). That way you guys can keep in touch. Right now we got the high winds with very misty air, so you can lightly dampened as soon as you step outside. This is supposed to be when things start getting bad right now. Oldschool41 : If your state is in a state of emergency, maybe call up the job and ask for a reschedule due to the really bad weather, they may be understanding. If it is not in a state of emergency, I can see why you may as well suck it up. Not saying it is not dangerous, but I imagine jobs are more understanding with a state of emergency. It is very admirable of you and your family to take in strays to keep them safe. ruesen : I guess, but I had made a commitment to do an interview at 3:00 pm EST so I feel like I should do it. Plus it hasn't started raining yet, just the wind; so its not like I can't get outside without getting bombarded by rain bombs. Also how much did your generator cost? ruesen : I guess, but I had made a commitment to do an interview at 3:00 pm EST so I feel like I should do it. ruesen : At this time i am also worried about the animal rescue becasue if their house or barn/s fall from the wind it will fall on top of Dogs/Cat/Horses/Rabbits and possibly some chickens mattering on which building fails. The building im most worried about is the Barns and Cat house since the Cat house hold sick cats that are not very healthy because of their eyes and that their mothers may have died so they put in another mother that has had her kittens die from either Nateral effects or of people running them over (Very sad) so she nurses them. The one barn will be full with Dog creates and Dogs. There will be atleast 15-20 dogs in there along with heat, blankets and some Water/Food. But since it is on a hill of some kind and with that wind it is possible for it to completely colapse. The other barn (Which im not as worried about) has the Horses and Rabbits in it. Although it is on the other side of the street and down hill instead of up, it has a tree that may be knocked down and if it does it will go straight to the barn. As you can agree it is not a very good place to have these kind of conditions but they are trying the best they can to get ready for it and hope for the best Yea we have done that so the food wont spoil fast and have cooked a lot so i think we will be alright I have already and i am checking today (I had sent it last night) if they got the E-mail i sent them for the reason why i might not be there for the next few days No we do not the only cell phone we have is my father's which he needs for work but sometimes uses for personal use so he can check up with me and my mother I know it is not going to be a very good next two-four days because of Sandy. It is not usual, like i said, for people in my area to get hurricanes so most people are freaking out (like me) and closeing the schools and putting up some sand bags around a few of the rivers in hopes it will help some or delay it. What is also sad is that in Bloomsburgh (About 25 miles from where i live) had a flood last year and all the houses were wrecked near the river, and they just put up new houses there and now a month later they will be torn down again from this hurricane. I feel bad for the people who own the houses or Live there

Right now hurricane sandy is hitting my area and we are getting winds of up to 40 miles per hour and it is suppose to during the night get up to 60 miles per hour winds so I'm a little bit afraid we might lose power cause that would really suck. Heard reports that 4 people have died already. Sad, I just hope that they were not fooling around outside and decided not to seek shelter. Heard reports that 4 people have died already. Well just like I feared the hurricane took out my power last night and it SUCKED!! I really couldn't do anything I wanted to do because of it. And the worst part was that my power stayed out for a couple of hours! Well just like I feared the hurricane took out my power last night and it SUCKED!!
