Hey!
Several times after talking to mods for various things, I've noticed that what I get told, and what the help and rule pages state, often contradict.

Can we get them overhauled for new users?  If there's a general consensus that they need to be completely re-written, I'd be happy to do that for you.

Just for some examples of what I'm talking about:
The forum FAQ tells me that I can bump any thread I want if it's not closed.  And yet I've been told that it's against the rule if the last post was over a month old.  Someone told me that it was okay to MAYBE bump one a day, but never more than that.  This page states that there is no limit at all.  Since threads don't close for six months, maybe the FAQ needs to state something about it being considered bad manners to bump threads where the last post is over a month old, and that they should NOT be bumped.

i can't remember where it's at and I just now searched but can't find it.  In one place, the site says that you must get 10 points to be trusted, and that your points must stay above 5 to keep that status. But another place says you simply must get 5 points to become trusted.

There are a few other things I've noticed but can't remember or find.  Maybe someone who is familiar with all locations for rules/ help/ FAQ can take a gander?

I think it's important to make sure these pages are all cohesive for our newbies.    This way there is no confusion between mods and users.

I agree with Singelli; As I would read rules and what moderators tell people in other topics, I noticed such contradictions, namely the first example she provided. Personally, I believe if a topic is still open, it should be free to post in. I understand that if one is not adding anything substantial to the topic, however, then the poster could be scolded, but then THAT should be in the rules.

That particular ruling could be fixed easily with just minor rewording or tweaking:

- Could have it in the rules to not post in topics over x amount of time unless you are adding some sort of substance to the post.
In this example, if the topic is "What is your favorite fruit and why?" A person posting "I like bananas cause I like yellow," and that's it would not be allowed. But someone who types, "I happen to like bananas, because not only do they provide a good source of potassium, but are so tasty too! [goes into benefits and maybe a few other fruit or discusses other people's opinions as well]" has a more valid post, thus contributing something of substance.

- Change the auto-locking time.
If we should not post in topics that have not been posted in over a month or something, then we should not be given the chance to do so. Just make said change and be done with it.

If there are any other rules that need updating, perhaps we could even have a dialogue about what seems fair (that is, if a ruling really warrants such a discussion).

Singelli. I didn't know all of that... That's very interesting. Do you know any way I could help... I know I'm just an ordinary Member, but if there is any way I could help, I would be glad to do so.

This has been suggested SEVERAL times.

Only way it's getting rewritten is if you ask David.

Davideo7 :

Read this thread please?

legacyme3 : leggy, do you think it'd be considered bad manners if I just re-wrote them and offered it up?  You know, to get the ball rolling?  I probably can't do it tonight, but I could possibly do it within the next couple of days.

Singelli :

You'd have to ask David. I'm no longer involved in these types of matters. I just figured I'd summon David here, and point you in the right direction.

Hm. I thought of something else. When you go to make a thread in the "Your Forum", there's the option for choosing the sub-forum "Leaving Forum".

If this is against the rules, shouldn't we NOT encourage it by listing it as a sub-forum option?

Singelli : I guess the problem is that the staff and I have had different ideas of certain rules. I'll get to updating that stuff before the year ends.

Hold off on rewriting them though, that's something I'd like to take care of.

legacyme3 : My current schedule looks pretty good for the rest of the year so I might actually be able to start getting stuff like this taken care of over the next month or 2.

Singelli : If I'm not mistaken, it's still okay to announce temporary leaves? I could be wrong about that... but this might be the reason that sub-forum is being kept. Threads for permanently leaving Vizzed are discouraged, but it might be okay to say "Hey, I'll be gone for x amount of time or so just so you all know"

This is a known issue that has been requested a lot, by everyone from Newbies to Globals, and it just won't be resolved. It's sort of like the search option. Everybody knows it's a problem, but nobody can fix it, and those with the ability just won't do it.

Crazy Li : The reason that sub-forum still exists is due to the way sub-forums work on Vizzed--that is, they're actually just "tags" that are added to sort threads. If two or more threads share the same "tag" or sub-forum, then that sub-forum exists on the board menu. Even though those types of threads are no longer allowed, they still exist, and so that sub-forum still shows up.

Anyway, this requires no more input. ~CLOSED~
