I myself, am unsure about what to think how the world might end as we know it, but I sure do hope it's something quick and painless like a supernova.   I think there's a big chance that the world won't end in 2012, and if it doesn't, then I think all the really big believers that prepared a lot for it will feel really stupid.

The idea of 2012 is based off of a huge misconception. People think the Mayans predicted the end of the world, so that is the reason why their calendar ended. That is not the case. The Mayans were killed. You can't continue the calendar if you are dead. So unless people want to believe that their death by the Eastern Invaders was a way to mark the end of the world a few centuries later, it is all a misconception.

Lets see based off the choices I would say...

Zombies: It would be impossible for Zombies to exists in real life as it we lack the technology to create something for zombies to exist (so far no none virus/bacteria doesn't cause a zombie to exist.)

Supernova: So far NASA has yet to detect that a supernova will hit hit the planet. Even if a supernova is detected and it could collide with the planet, it would take some time for the supernova to hit the planet and it could weeken by the time it hits or something else in the Universe blocks it.

War: Wars come and go. They said that World War 1 would destroy mankind; that didn't happen. They said World War 2 would destroy the planet; didn't happen (all though that one bomb did crack the tectonic plate). The Cold War which everyone said was going to turn Hot would wipe out everything; that didn't happen. War is not going to destroy the planet, if anything it will destroy a country.

Lack of Resources: Yeah our resources are already being depleted, however this won't cause the world to end (this should better go with War.)

Aliens: So far no Aliens yet. Maybe yes maybe no. But so far we haven't found any Aliens yet.

Natural Distastors: It would take a rediculous amount of Natural Disastors to happen in a short amount of time to at least cause some damage to Humanity; but it wouldn't outright be the end of humanity.

Everybody is not sure what is going to happen when this happens, but I believe someone said that we'll see "dark dust clouds" in the sky during the daytime or something like that (but this is just a theory).

Also we should add magnetic reversal as another possibility although it would take time for it to completely reverse, but we might be more prone to the effects of solar radiation/gamma radiation from the sun.

I heard mention that all of the planets were supposed to align sometime during this year. I've heard several suggestions made as to when but I know little to nothing about it myself. Which is why I didn't mention anything.

Nah I don't believe in 2012. It just some random thing that a person spread, and lot of people start to believe in the lie. If it does end I would hope it is quick. Plus a lot of people it going to end in the past, but it never happen.

I'm not a believer that the world will end this year BUT if it WERE to end this year, i would say natural disasters.

Because last year a bunch of funny things happened... Hurricane and Flooding in Pa. and earthquakes in NY and California

I doubt the world will end, and if it does, chances are I'll be dead before it happens so to me it doesn't matter. If it was going to end, it will most likely happen from the sun running out of energy but i don't think it's gonna happen.

The world is probably not going to end just about two months from "now" because How do the scientist know? They always say "Oh. We made a mistake." Seriously? They've been predicting since the beginning of time. It's more like 5 million pieces of candy in one jar. So 2012, The world is probably not going to end. Also, just only Earth is the only planet that is predicting that the "world" is going to end. If our planet ends, Will we go to Mars or somewhere else far away? We don't know yet but we will find out on December 21th 2012.

The world will end when our sun become a red giant, expands, dissolves all the water from the Earth surface (as well as Mercury and Venus), and dies in a brilliant explosion. What's left of Earth will float away into space somewhere. That is probably not 100% accurate. It's been a while since I had my Planet Earth class.

Instead what happens is that the every part of the sun besides the core becomes "lose" and gets swept away by solar wind while the hot core (white dwarf) still remains in place. In fact the white dwarf actually still gives off energy and heat, only you have to be just close enough for the stuff to take notice.

Speaking of the Mayans first, why did they pick 2012? As rcarter2 mentioned, one reason could be because they were killed. Another reason, could simply be because they had to stop somewhere. Maybe they got bored with it and moved on to something else. No one knows.

How life will end "as we know it" I believe will first be due to a lack of resources generated by our out-of-control population growth. Even in my short lifetime we have drained the planet of so much oil, cut down so many trees (which provide oxygen,) and are piling up garbage by the megaton each year and it only keeps getting worse.

Speaking of the Mayans first, why did they pick 2012? As rcarter2 mentioned, one reason could be because they were killed. Another reason, could simply be because they had to stop somewhere. Maybe they got bored with it and moved on to something else. No one knows.

How life will end "as we know it" I believe will first be due to a lack of resources generated by our out-of-control population growth. Even in my short lifetime we have drained the planet of so much oil, cut down so many trees (which provide oxygen,) and are piling up garbage by the megaton each year and it only keeps getting worse.

First off I don't think the world is going to end in 2012. If in some weird way it did end, Id imagine we'd die from something in outer space whether it be the solar radiation, a super nova, black hole or even a meteor. Lack of resources definitely doesn't seem like it would happen because wouldn't we already be seeing signs of it today? The only natural disaster that probably would do all of us in would be a massive volcano eruption that block out the sun and pollute the air. As for war, I really hope a country isn't stupid enough to kill the entire human race. As for Aliens and Zombies, they just seem like a very long shot and the least likely to happen out of all the choices given. Meh, this is just my take on the subject and it's fun to see what others say about it. :3
