I am conducting the interest check because I want to know if this sort of thing is still popular. However, this is also a discussion thread. I want to know what people want in roleplays. I want to know what they like to see, why they like to roleplay. 

So here's my super - uber - needs - lots - of - detail question:
What would the perfect roleplay for you be?


And here's a few ideas to consider as you answer:

- Amount of time you have to roleplay
- Preferred frequency of posting
- Preferred level of activity
- Detail
- Quality

- Creative Juices

I'll probably add questions in the future, if I see something that isn't being touched on. 

Ktanaqui : I enjoy fantasy or reality type of role playing games. I have a LOT of free time on my hands, so I am pretty sure I would be able to post on a regular basis. Also depending on what the role play is about. I really love people that put a lot of effort and detail into writing their characters. I used to role play a lot on other sites back in 2009. Those sites are now only archived. I sure do miss RPing.

I like to have my characters sort of reflect my own personality, but not completely. I also like to really get into my character's mind and think about what they would do if they existed in real life. So I love when it's very detailed. It helps me to interact with the other characters and really get into the mindset of the characters I created and play.

I love RPing with people who are fun to RP with (if that makes sense)

I do have one question though... what do you mean by "full-scale"?

As for your questions...

I don't have a super lot of time to roleplay consistently. I work and take college classes, so days can get pretty full (also probably why I can't keep up with TDV xp) but on days I don't work, I'm usually freer and I still manage to get to the site at least once a day.

Due to the fact that I don't have consistent time, I'd be better suited for slower stuff... like a post a day... though I'd PREFER much faster, I don't think I can actually get on reliably enough to do faster. I just like faster RPs better than slowpost ones.

Detail... do you mean how descriptive the writing is? I prefer good detail. I want to get a good sense of the other characters and be able to visualize them and what's going on. I prefer attention given to the narration and not solely dialogue without any other post content. I don't wanna pressure anyone, but I do like some level of quality in the RPing. The bare minimum I ask for are complete, coherent sentences with proper grammar and punctuation.

I can roll with a variety of styles. I think the whole medieval fantasy style is probably where I'm most proficient... yanno the type of theme most older Japanese RPGs used (old school Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, etc...). I tend to make character who have magical abilities, so worlds that have magic are preferred... but I've very flexible and can work without it. I've done sci-fi/futuristic before as well.

I usually take small pieces of myself and exaggerate them and then add additional content to complete them to make characters. I have a wide array that fit many different types of roles and situations. Doesn't matter if I need humans or various non-human races... I've got the potential to cover just about anything.

So yeah... is there any other info you wanted/needed?

Thank you both for the responses. How would either of you feel about mixed roleplays - like creating an entire new world with all sorts of things mixed in? Like... eh, easiest example I can give. Like taking Pokemon and Digimon and mixing them together in the same world. Except... with lots more.

As for what I mean by full-scale - as in the "Dungeon Master" creating an entire world complete with descriptions for individual areas, possibly actual maps, lists of possible occurrences, etc. It would be... very extensive.

I have more fun with completely original content, but I've done "crossover RPs" before. Basically where you take existent characters and content and mix them with fanon. I usually don't have confidence to properly stick to the content someone else has created faithfully and plus, I'd hafta be familiar with all the sources involved for it to really work. That's why I prefer original stuff since I don't feel those pressures, I can RP more comfortably.

Ktanaqui : I don't mind mixed RPG's. It makes it easier to do whatever you want with the characters. I try to at least make the character biographies first and then start the RPG afterward. So I know what kind of personalities my character or characters have.

Crazy Li :

What I have in mind for a project is to take various ideas and mix them together in the same "world." I am considering doing a completely 100% original and then a fan crossover. Separate.

Yeah, I totally like the freedom of being able to do whatever I'd like with my characters. It's rather nice to not have to worry about odd limits.

I'm definitely up the for original one and have a good number of character to choose from depending upon what the details of the world are. The fan one, I'll have to see what composes it first before I decide.

Ktanaqui : I adore rp and have been trying to find partners forever, so of COURSE my answer is one gigantic YES!  LOL  I have lots of free time... at least enough free time to post once a day.  If the story is active though, I can easily average three posts a day within reason.  (As in, don't expect three pages from each post unless I'm VERY free that day and the story is riveting.)

I love rp so much though, that I don't mind how frequently or infrequently people post.  A story is a story, and the quality of the story won't decrease just because someone takes awhile to respond.  I'm willing to understand people have real life obligations, and so I work around other people's schedules.

I do like detail, but again, I'm flexible.  I prefer to post at at least a few paragraphs, and I'm not very fond of one or two liners.  Quality is all in the content.  Not everyone has perfect grammar or can form a perfect sentence.

I personally prefer stories based off survival or the medieval era.  But once again... I am VERY flexible!  I'd be willing to work around everyone else.

My ONLY limitation is that I will not rp magic.

And if the RP allowed complete and total flexibility to each person? What would you think of something like that? Did you read the previous couple of posts aside from the original? (This last is literally a curiosity question.)

Singelli : Aww... no magic? Why? What do you have against it? And do you mean you won't RP in a world that has magic at all or just don't use it yourself? The latter's not really a problem, because that's just personal preference with character creation.

Ktanaqui : I hadn't read the previous posts when I first responded, but I have since then.  I've never rp'd a fan fiction before and I don't really play a lot of games or watch a lot of TV, so I'm not so sure I'd do a good job of that at all. I'd certainly we willing to try, but I'd be worried about disappointing everyone involved.

Crazy Li :  I'm one of those die-hard 'crazy' Christians that takes my Bible very literally, and the Bible actually instructs believers to stay away from anything involving magic.  So I wouldn't want to play even as a non-magical character in a magical world.  I'm sorry!

Singelli : Isn't that taking it a bit far? I mean, we're talking about fiction here. It's not like RPing in a magical world means that you're believing in magic in any way or trying to practice magic.

I grew up on games like Final Fantasy which have a heavy focus on stuff like spells and elemental attacks, so my RPing tends to revolve around that sort of world. It's just more fun for me to play in the type of environments that a lot of RPG games set up.

Was there no other interest at all in this? That's kinda sad... I thought it could be fun.

Maybe more specifics on the world need to be outlined to pull in interest. I think what you had so far was cool and perhaps other people catching that might agree and suddenly wanna take part?
