for me I wanna know people's favorite genres. I think games like RPGs or Strategy should be made more often. I do like the FPS as well and I enjoy puzzle games like Klonoa. I just feel that there need to be more games like original FF and games like Fire Emblem.

I think there needs to be more 'out of the box' games.

Now you may be thinking: "Sairek! That's not a video game genre!"

No it isn't. That's because people are not doing something new. People keep making the same old kind of games again, and again, and again.

Just look at all of the first person shooters for example. You got several Call of Duties for one. Borderlands 2 (although that adds a completely different twist and it is a good step in the right direction) is also a first person. It feels like almost every couple of months, another first person shooter title comes and in my honest opinion it's become far too redundant by now.

MOBAs (Multi Online battle Arenas) are one of the newer genres that have come out, such as League of Legends, Smite, Dota 2, etc. All of these games have been extremely successful hits so far.

Indie games are doing an excellent job at making completely new, different and innovative things. Minecraft is such a simple concept. Yet look at how many people love it, and even today the game STILL feels fresh for players; even as old as me who have been playing Minecraft before it was even released for Alpha back in 2009, feel like the game is fresh and keeps remaining fresh with every update that's coming out.

Kerbal Space Program is a completely different take and no resembling any game genre at all. It's a completely new idea, still in alpha, and it's becoming just if not MORE popular than even Minecraft was! It's literally a sandbox space game and people absolutely love it.

We need game companies to think outside the box and start creating not genres that already exist, but begin inventing completely new genres and styles of games. Portal when it first came out was a complete success for a different style of puzzle gaming. Mirror's Edge was a first person Parkour game that was a gigantic success. Both games were extremely short and yet are still incredibly popular because they are something new, and they were fantastic.

Yes, we need more different styled games.

I think there should be more 2 player coop games. I also would like to have a game like grand theft auto but it should be two players that would be so much fun. i think about making one when i get a little bit older.

I'd like more sandbox games with compelling worlds, storyline and reason to explore them myself. I'd also like more RTS games with a heavy Single-player campaign, but like that's ever gonna happen, right?

Isn't there a thread like this already?

I think there are too many adventure/ rpg games which contain magic.  I'm not saying that because I won't play games with magic.  I'm saying it because when all the games have magic in them, I'm sure it starts to feel like you're playing the same game over and over again.  There needs to be more variety.  I could be wrong, but to me it seems that almost every game I look at has magic in it.

There are a few things I would like to see.

1. Games with more customization. Whether it be creating the look and abilities of your character(s)... the ability to create maps, NPCs, items, worlds, etc... anything. I think the player needs to be giving more options and more ability to create their own gaming experience if they so desire.

2. More games with cooperative multi-player features. I think some of the games I've had the most fun with, I was able to play along side a friend. I remember epic experiences in stuff like Secret of Mana and Tales of the Abyss where I fought along side friends and created great experiences with them.

3. Also, I'd like to see more games that are innovative and just do something different. Whether it be a RPG with a different battle system than you normally see... or a different type of story premise... a different type of world. Let's break away from the cliches and try to make something new and interesting for a change.

I do think developers need to take more of a D&D influence as well. I think this goes well with #1 because the first game I played that really satisfied this was Neverwinter Nights. But even games like Mass Effect and Dragon Age kind of get some of what I want in a Western RPG. I want to continue to see games made in that sort of fashion.

I love RPGs, but I would really like to see more dating simulators and adult-oriented content. There is plenty of adult content out there, so don't get me wrong, but even with those I still feel as though game designers have to walk on eggshells in order to suit the ESRB. There are tons of game designers where you can just tell that they aren't able to show the full potential of their creativity, often do to the fact that they are placed under so many restrictions which must be met in order to get the game approved for release to the public. The real issue lies with parental supervision anyway, so it surprises me that there still exists such a controversial issue about it today.

Id love to see more strategy games like gangsters 2, dungeon keeper 2, the total war series.
Ive only ever played one that spanned the earth, it was pretty insane trying to control your economy, military, and political popularity. Conquest was difficult too. They should make more like that.
And less magicy fairy goblin junk.

Games where you have a large map that is essentially sandbox are hard to ruin too, yet few are made, perhaps due to the difficulty in trying to make a seamless area where glitches dont destroy you every 6 meters

I agree with Crazy Li that we need more games that have a lot of customization. Also I want more games that "real world dialeic" instead of the generic talk. For example if I let say play a game that has me kill someone; I want the people to say or do actions that would be realistic to the action of me killing someone and not give me conversations or actions that say I didn't just kill someone.

And I agree with thenumberone, we need more Total War game series cause those games are fun and educational (to an extent.)

I'd have to say that there are not enough strategy-based games out there. I'd love to see an expansion to the strategy genre...

I would like to see more RPG games. But I would want the ones that are more colorful. They are just more fun, and I can't get into the ones that you use swords and magic to kill everyone. Oh, and also need more FPS. Just kidding! Why are there so many anyway?
