mikepepper :   Can you be more descriptive in your first post?  All you really say is that you hate it, not why you hate it.
Anyways, I really don't see techno as being all that bad.  It definitely is not as bad as what is floating around today (Justin Beiber, etc.).

I don't care for techno myself because, yeah, in my opinion: It isn't real music. It's noise created by computers. Then again, that's a sound that some people like so I suppose it is music to them.

And I do have to agree with the previous two posters; it IS better than the bulls*** that we have today that they label as music. Really, Rebecca Black?

While I'm not exactly a fan of Techno myself, I'll HIGHLY debate that music made with computers is, yes, music. Kid A is a music album, as is Autobahn and Cosmogramma. In fact I'd call all three of those great examples of electronically created music. Neither of those are techno though.

well its cause Ive played bass guitar and guitar for 8 years and Ive noticed a lot of techno is basically repeated beats over and over again maybe some changes here and there. and I'm open to all kinds of music but Ive even had my dads friends comment on techno (who are all real grade A musicians who can learn songs on the spot with out writing down any notes of 30 years and up and play all kinds of music say that its simple minded music for simple minded people) and a lot of the older music like Rush, The Beatles, George Harrison, etc is quickly forgotten about just cause of people who have a computer that can repeat the beats over and over again and use auto tone to fix up there voice like lady gaga, Justin biber, LMFAO while my band refused to use vocal effects to sound better and try to be as real and natural sounding as possible. My band just broke up cause of music differences, one of my friends just wanted to sit there and hold a button on a key-bored while we were all putting in more work and writing more then he was and he calmed he was *the star* because everyone now  likes techno and he wanted to conform to modern music when a year ago he hated it. I'm  not here to argue i just want an opinion but we have played a couple of shows and all the techno bands got more parse for holding a couple of buttons while we put more effort into playing different scales and involving jazz and rock scales into our  music when there music seemed to have less effort and simple beats.

I am not a huge fan of techno, but I have to say that some of the techno songs are really good to listen, but not most of them.

Yes i agree i'm tired of hearing it to. It makes no sense to me. Every time a techno song comes on the radio i turn it even if it starts sounding good.

techno is hit-or-miss. Some beats are really good... but others are just boring and repetitive. it depends on how it's executed, really.

I've never really liked techno to be honest. It's just a melody that repeats over and over and has no meaning. The only time I remember ever listening to techno is when we went into the bar area of the bowling alley, this was YEARS ago, and they have a dance night and they played techno for people who were dancing on the dance floor. So I never really listen to it. It just never appealed to me.

I have quite a wide range of musical love. From the polar opposites of classical and black metal, to some country, some rap, and international sounds, there is not a genre that I can't find some appreciation in. I am NOT an expert or anything, but I can say that I have an alright frame of reference at the very least.

I am actually rather a fan of most electronic music! There are some bad eggs that I have no patience for, but it is certainly like that with any musical genre.

Indeed, the repetition is the most common complaint I've heard against techno. It seems that the repeating "phrases" of the music has become a characteristic feature of the style. It's unfortunate, really, because it turns a lot of people off of the genre completely and they never get to hear what it has to offer. Obviously, I don't stand for a five minute song that repeats the same two or four measures with no variation, but there are some cases where it is used effectively, e.g. a four-four beat can "drone" all the way though a song that has a lot of consonant and dissonant moments for a comforting consistent familiarity. Perhaps I am looking into it too much, though.

Here! Let me throw a one at ya. Obviously, everyone's taste is different, but check out this little song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njZGVp_Kuiw

The musician, Rhyno, is very good at including a LOT of texture in his songs. See if you can count how many sounds and instruments he has in this one piece!

Edit: Doh! Still learning the formatting options here.

I don't believe that to be true. You can put a lot of emotion into music without the need of words. Game music does this all the time, and should be a prime example of that.

Ever played Final Fantasy IX and listened to Original Sound Track called "You're not Alone"? That's a very good prime example right there. Very fitting to the scene.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IYVXj-zRql0

Just because it has a faster beat and quicker pace doesn't mean the emotion and meaning of the song isn't there. In fact, that can help bring emotion; rather than mellow it down and make it softer.

But I'm talking about a musicians point of view not from music in gaming. I just see these techno guys set up a computer or two with a spin table and hold a few buttons along with a key-bored and repeat and chop beats and they get more phrase then older musicians for touching a table and hitting a few buttons then musicians who play an instrument that don't depend on there laptops or other peoples music to use in their DJ ing  and chop in their song. :/

I'm no big techno fan, but it seems that you may also dislike things that might be similar to it in your eyes but fans of the genre what disagree in a heart beat. I love Liquid Drum & Bass, Liquid Dubstep, Deep House...All of these examples of some very soothing sounding music. You could easily Google these yourself and i can only hope you run into the better songs of the genre but these examples are what it's named after. The sound of the song has a very liquid sound, soothing to the ear. Not all beat and bass which can be very annoying. Deep house is a lot like jazz lobby music [some of my favorite songs sound this way while every song won't] that i enjoy a lot, but to each their own.

I know the feel bro, I used to be okay with techno then I started listening to more and was all like this is lame XP But I can stand techno much more than I can dubstep, I mean what in the world? Do we just look around for people who can make the stupidest sounding noise and then call them a musical genius nowadays?
