And I had surgery on it two week ago. Was in a splint during that time until yesterday when I had it take off, had the stitches removed (which made me VERY squeamish) and was downgraded to a velcro splint for the next 4-6 weeks, depending on my recovery. This thread isn't about that, though. I'll have to make a thread in Your Forum about the entire ordeal. And believe me, there is a lot to talk about what I went through this past month. Instead, I want to show you what my stitches looked like as well as the incision on my wrist where they operated.

During my squeamish, and slightly nauseating visit of having them removed I managed to conjure up a few ounces of bravery and get some decent pictures of them, before and with only one left. Be warned: if you're like me when it comes to blood, surgery wounds and other physical body stuff that's gruesome, turn back now. For those who care about the death of a housefly more than being affected by seeing stuff like this you may proceed ahead.

Cyro its sad to hear that. Hope yr doin better. My foot incision did look similar but now the incision is for the most part closed so it's pinkish. Hope you heal.

New to the site , probably stating the obvious... But judging by the attire of the guy with you I think it's safe to say you serve in the US military , Would just like to say I respect that, and that I feel in US society it is something that is not given enough credit. It is very honorable for any man to serve in the military and something that should be recognized and honored.

Wow, a bad injury. I looked at the pictures. The stitch marks looked weird like strange writing. In the second to last picture, I actually see your head, which means we finally see your head. The last one, dry blood around the stitch marks?

LegolasJJH : Thank you for words. Yes, I am in the Army (getting out in 7 months after 15 years). Enough credit is given to those who simply work in the Army. Not enough goes to those whose job is to actually conduct raids, fire fights and other dangerous missions. Until I went to Afghanistan last year I didn't feel I was deserving of being praised that much for simply being in the Army. But it's good know people like you care. It does mean a lot to us. So thanks for YOUR support.

Well, that sucks. Looks mighty painful as well. Well, the surgery must have been fresh when you took pics of it, but I hope you make a speedy recovery, Cyro.

pacman1755 : Thanks, but those pics weren't from the surgery. They're from two days ago- 2 weeks AFTER the surgery. I just had them removed during an appointment and was put into a velcro cast.

I'm gonna be honest here: The first two pictures with the stitches on them look actually pretty cool XD Kinda like something that would scare people away when you get into a fight or something, Nya~.

The third one however was slightly more weird due to the orange or something looking whateverliquidlikethingthatis.

MegaRevolution1 : Pretty sure the orange substance in the third picture is just an anti bacterial type deal , to keep the wound clean from infection while healing.

LegolasJJH : You are correct, sir. I think it's iodine.

The orange-y substance would be Iodine; it's a liquid that is used most frequently when working with incisions of any sort, as well as shots. It has an annoying scent but it is really good for cleansing the skin and keeping it so. Here's an article detailing some of the uses for Iodine: 12 Uses of Iodine . Iodine is typically stored in a brown glass bottle, as it's better for it. (On this, I'm not exactly positive on the reasoning for Iodine being stored in the brown glass bottles.) Most of the bottles of Iodine that I have seen have either been small (about 3 inches tall x 1 inch diameter) brown glass bottles or medium rectangular (about 5-8 inches tall, 1-2 inches thick, and 3-4 inches wide) brown glass bottle. Just some information that I can give you (from personal experience) regarding Iodine.

Ktanaqui : Some good info. I'll add that they also come in little paper wraps- the kind that those moist towelettes are in. That's what they got their iodine from. It's probably a lot more convenient with easier storage that way.

Cyro Xero : Oh yea. Those are fun little packets. Good to have in a First Aid kit. 

Dang Cyro, looks like that had to hurt. Iodine, eh? I'll remember to keep a bottle on hand if it's something you should have on hand I guess.

I would personally say that Iodine is -almost- better to keep on hand than alcohol. (Personally, I'd say keep both.) Primary reason for this belief (note that this is an opinion)? Because alcohol evaporates quickly - and when it does, it's useless. Iodine doesn't; it stays and continues to kill germs that touch the surface.
