We all know this by now. Most movies are based on best-selling books. Well, in your opinion, what is the best movie that is based on a book? Was it better than the book? If you can't think of "the best movie" how about the worst movie that was based on a book? Was the plot terrible? Not do the book justice? And so on... Make sure to upload the movie poster if you're member and above For me, I haven't seen many movies based on books, but I thought "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" was a good movie. Of course, I prefer the book, but the live action actors did, for the most part, do the book characters well.

I can't think of a "Best move based on a book" but I'll say the worst. The quiet man. The book was more interesting.

Not Much Thinking to do here it is quite obviously in my opinion that all Three of the Lord of the Ring Films and hopefully the upcoming Hobbit Trilogy will add to Peter Jackson's Legacy. Return of the King since it won almost every Oscar it was nominated for is at the top of course.

I think the film adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird was done really well, so I'm going to go with that. There's also Rosemary's Baby, Holes, and (the most obvious choice) The Wizard of Oz.

I have to say that I really enjoyed the movies based off the books Interview With a Vampire and Queen of the Damned, they were great movies and a very interesting way to portray Lestat in Queen of the Damned. When I read the book I honestly didn't picture it that way, but I like it a lot more than the way I thought of it.

genesis1999 : I thoroughly disagree, The Quiet Man is one of John Ford's best films along with boasting a luscious cinematography and possibly one of the only major films of John Wayne where he isn't typecasted as himself.

My favorites would have to be Stalker, Deliverance, The French Connection, Cool Hand Luke, Bridge on River Kwai, Z, Midnight Express, Field of Dreams, and JFK.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest were easily the best movies that came from books recently.

I think so far, the only one that I've seen that turned out okay was "Oliver & Company" which was based on the book "Oliver Twist"

Hands down, Little Women. Definitely the BEST movie ever made, either version by the way, based on a book. I love the book, of course the books are always better since they have more detail. But the movies that were made based from the book were done very well. I love the storyline and it has a lot of really good morality issues in them.

I think my favorite movie based on a book is the Green Mile. Very rare is a movie as good as the book (or even close to as good, for that matter). This is one of those rare occasions where I think that it is as good as the book.

I would I have to say two movies come to mind, while I am typing my post, One would have to be "Goodfellas" Based on the life of Henry Hill, and the book or novel "wise guy, and the second movie would have to be The Crow one with late Brandon Lee based on the comic book/ novel by James O barr, under the same name.  That movie is a classic action Flick, and a love flick as well. With a pretty good soundtrack.
