Oh that sounds really intense. So I guess a hurricane can happen just about anywhere right? As long as there is warm water, or something like that?

You never really hear about hurricanes that aren't in the Caribbean or around the U.S. Coast.

Then again, Hawaii is American so why not right.

I grew up in Florida, so I've experienced plenty of hurricanes, but I've never been in the direct line of one. The damage has always been minimal cosmetic damage, and I think because of this, I don't really take them as seriously as I should. But I think that if I had a hurricane projected to run straight through my back yard, I'd probably evacuate. Maybe. I might stay at my house and send my family out, just to make sure nobody tries to loot what few possessions I care for. And to try to mitigate any damage and keep it as minimal as possible.

And maybe even do some looting of my own. I do hate my neighbors, after all.

I've heard of the devastation and horror of the hurricanes, but it's pretty tame up here in Massachusetts.

I fed your dragon dude.

It is not worth it to hang out in your house when devastation is imminent. Evacuate please, your family will be devastated if something were to happen to you. The fact that people would go around in the wake of a devastating storm and rob people is horrible and heartless.

I hope that you never have to deal with those circumstances. It is best to make sure you stay safe.

I have lived in Texas all my life, left once for another desert, I haven't seen much rain in my life. I bet it is scary thou I couldn't imagine 100mph winds and rain that floods everything. I mean I have seen the news and pictures but actually living below the Sub Sea level I don't thin I will ever do it.

I feel that way to.

I live in Ontario so I've seen storm and I've seen heady snowfall and things like that, but I've never seen ridiculously high levels of rainfall combined with 100+ mph winds.

I would definitely not want to live below sea level for those reasons.

Also, it seems that those areas that are near the ocean coasts tend to get the most devastating storms.

Thankfully no. We've had strong wind and thunderstorms, but never a hurricane.

Oh really? Where are you from then?

I'm currently feeling the outer band storm effects from Hurricane Sandy.

I'm more inland so nothing to worry about.

We are expected to get a decent amount of rain and strong winds.

No. I live in the Pacific Northwest. I'm pretty sure it's impossible for us to have a hurricane here, because of the cold water. We also can't have tornadoes forming because of the mountain rage.

Technically been in two. One was a minor amount of rain and just went on the edge of Pa.

The other, one we are having currently, is hitting on full force (Or so what i have heard) Superstorm Sandy. Aka Hurricane Sandy

bobq : Living in the south especially in the sunshine state you always have to be alert for Hurricanes both during and after the official hurricane season. I rode in a car for eighteen hours during hurricane Charlie in 2004. My father waited until the last minute to evacuate when it looked like we were going to get hit directly.

Well to make a long story short we took off and headed east and in essence drove right into the path of this thing which had turned away from where we lived. At the end of the day we had spent eighteen hours more or less driving around the entire state getting back to where we live around 3am the next day.

Although I was as stiff as a surfboard and so sore for at least four days after it and, although I was angry with my dad for waiting until the very last minute to evacuate, it’s better to air on the side of caution when it comes to things like this. I will say however that had I had things my way I would have booked a flight up north two days out before the storm was suppose to hit so that my family and I were well out of harm's way before it even got to a rush last minute decision.

It just comes with the territory of living in the south. If I could afford it I would gladly move back up north. Despite the storm that the north just experienced, it is rare that the north gets hit with hurricanes. The main thing that you have to deal with up north is the threat of snow during the fall and winter months. It seems like the lesser of two evils when you really get down to it. Just one guy’s opinion.

I live in Kentucky so yes and no. We get hit by the storms that break away from the hurricanes that hit the East Coast, we however don't actually have to deal with huge waves or the hurricanes winds at its full force.
