Once infected, the only sure way is to wipe it all and start over.  If you have a big-name computer, it should have some recovery disks or a recovery partition hidden away on it somewhere (depending on how old).  Before you use the recovery, make sure to back up all your important files (pictures, music, homework).  To find the recovery for your laptop, ask Google for your laptops make and model with the keyword "Recovery".

As a preventative, Microsoft has a free antivirus that is decent.  I also tend to recommend that people install "malware bytes" and "spybot search and destroy".

kbraszzz : When my laptop got a virus, I just got a new one! The virus I had will make my laptop turn off in about 5 mins. Anyway, I need to know more about your virus. What is it doing to your laptop, how you got it, etc.?

How do you know?do you have antivirus?
If so run a full system scan and let it sort it.
This is a good free one(if you already have an antivirus dont download it)
http://www.avast.com/en-au/free-antivirus-download
Again, use full system scan.
If that dosent solve it, windows periodically creates restore points, choose a date before the problem started and restore to that point.
also, if you are using firefox, you should install this afterwords
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/wot-safe-browsing-tool/
that will block pages that have been reported as having viruses, reducing the chance of reinfection.
file and torrent downloads area good way of getting a virus too, with that free antivirus it reduces the risk, but a pay version like norton or mcafee will offer far better protection.

If your computer is still functioning enough, download avast and malwarebytes; excellent advice which was given above. Both of these programs are free (at basic level) and have eliminated every problem virus that I have ever encountered. Let us know how it is progressing. Peace

AVG I found is great to use their free version now comes with an ant-rootkit program. Rootkits are extreamly hard viruses to remove most antivirus programs have a hard time getting rid of them except for AVG. My computer came with several rootkits and I used avg. Now I have no problems.

Malwarebytes (MBAM) blocks malicious ip adresses from getting to your computer. These two programs have saved me lots of headachs.

What you can do is restore the data to a certain time where there were no virus.

If it is antivirus software you need to get rid of and clean viruses off of your computer, then I recommend using ESET smart security, it has a feature where you can run a scan on your computer and it will detect viruses and then show them to you and quarantine them and clean them off. It is like 40 dollars or something to purchase it and run scans, it lasts for a year when you buy it and you can run the scan and it only takes about an hour or 2 but it varies on how much information and data you store on your computer that will determine how fast the scan finishes. I hope that this will help you eliminate viruses that are harming your computer, I recommend using it, I have had it for years now and it works great and keeps my computer free of viruses. I think you should purchase it for 40 dollars or so for you computer because it is worth protecting it and keeping it from getting infected by viruses. Hope that this helps!
