I have, but it didn't turn out so great.  It was barely pliable and crumbled if you looked at it funny.  It happened to everyone though, so I think it was probably the teacher's fault (giving us wrong ingredients/proportions, etc.).

Cornstarch and water was more fun anyway.

I'll do you one better.  I made mochi, a Japanese dessert, and it is elastic and sticky just like play-doh.  Except it is more edible and sweet, not salty.

I have never made play-dough in a science course. I have made edible play-dough for my little brother once, which is just peanut butter and powdered milk. As far as science courses go, the closest to play dough I made was my own silly putty. That was entertaining.

Thanks science class. Now when I have kids who inevitably want play-doh... I can just make it for them. And guess what... that saves me money. A lot of it.

I just remembered that we had created clay in elementary school last time after I had posted here. What we did was dig blocks of dirt from the ground and separate the actual dirt from clay like substances. We used some water to get it even more moist and managed to create different shapes and things out of it. I created a sphere that stayed together for the longest time. At the time I used to toss it as a sort of tennis-ball-shaped toy.

And we did make and use a lot of clay in art class in my elementary and even now in high school when we do pottery and make objects and pots with clay.
