How often do you dream?

Do you remember your dreams, write them down?

What kind of dreams have you seen many times and what do you think they mean? (not intentionally rhyhming)

By many times I mean those dreams that are exactly the same, you just kind of know that you've seen it already,
I hope you understand me.

Yet sometimes my "repeating dreams" change too - overall is same, but maybe a person is different or I decide to do something differently.

And are you aware that you are dreaming? And can you control them? Like, when something attacks you, you just stop and say "this is not real" etc?

What do you mostly see?

Today I had stupid nightmares and at one point I lost the line between being awake and dreaming, I hate when that happens -
you think you are awake but actually you are not and get freaked out by things that appear. Creepy stuff.

I heard the door opening and steps coming to the bed, I thought to myself that my sister's flatmate wants something (visiting my sister),
but then it was a voice of a little girl maybe, it sounded more like a machine, and I was so sure I wasn't sleeping.

Later in my dream I had moved to a new apartment, it was so beautiful, lots of colours and old furniture.
But suddenly all the neighbours started to come in, I tried to lock the door but they still just walked in.
I went to the hall and shouted at them that why are they in my home, why won't they leave.
Someone threatened me with a gun to let him/her in.
And then there were lots of children, 2 girls told me that they came to see me because people are talking about me.
Doesn't sound scary at all, rather irritating, but when I finally woke up I was so scared.
Something about it made me so darn anxious.
Maybe somewhere, subconsciously, it has a big meaning I fail to see.??

I dream a lot.  I don't write things down but I have vivid dreams from years ago I still remember in full detail.  I dream about a lot of different subjects and thoughts.  One thing that happens enough I've noticed a pattern is I dream my teeth fall out of my gums.  I forget what it's supposed to mean.

I don't think dreams mean anything.  I take the scientific approach and believe the brain is just recharging and sorting out all the memories, experiences, feelings, thoughts, and ideas of the day.  It's like the little circle rainbow when an Apple product is processing and taking more than a milisecond.

I used to dream a lot when I was a kid, probably because my imagination was a lot more vivid than it is now. I've actually never kept track of a single dream on paper or anything. I just remember them in my head, though I probably should've just wrote them down since I forgot plenty of past dreams. For the most part, all of the dreams I've dreamed have been very different. I can't remember once where I had two different dreams on different dreams, but the dreams themselves are almost completely identical. My dreams are really random because I tend to think about a lot of different things in life, and my brain or something decides to pick a random thing I thought of that day and turn it into some sort of weird dream. That's all I really remember.

In my opinion, dreams are the brains way of looking back at previous days. Sure, the way it represents past memories isn't exactly the most organized, but it does bring me back to previous times. Heck, it sometimes brings me back years in my past. >.>

Aili, my dreams fascinate me, mainly because they are normally so vivid and strange. I don't always remember them but due to the nature of them being clearer than apparently most people can remember their's being, I did go through a time of writing them down. I also have many recurring themes.

I'll happily go into them if your interested, just right now I'm starting to get tired. Must be all this dream talk :p.

I suffer with Chronic Nightmares. So I do get dreams pretty often. Rarely do I get good dreams. So I have to take medication to control the amount of nightmares I get. I try not to remember any of the bad ones, they become too graphic and real. I prefer to forget them.

I'm very interested in dreams. They're always fascinating to me, especially in how nonchalant we treat them. "So I'm gonna go lie down, slip into a near-catatonic state, hallucinate wildly, then wake from it and not remember any of it."

Which is what hinders me from studying my dreams more. I have a hard time remembering them for more than a few minutes after I wake up, so unless it was a dream that I wake up from quickly and then go write it down, then I don't remember them at all.

Though I DO remember that last night, I dreamed I was playing Skyrim.
....I haven't played it yet.
But I was in my dream.

*shrug*

Ah well. It's still interesting. I may do some actual research into dreams at some point, but then, since science hasn't done much to explain them, they've always felt much more like an emotional subject than a scientific one.

Maybe we could use this thread as some sort of collective dream diary . Last night I had many dreams but the main one I remember was that I was playing CoD but I was amazing at it because no one could kill me at all, I had a kill streak of about 700 :p. Only after a while I was no longer playing it, I was in it and then I had to go and save someone which I think turned out to be a family with a sick dog, then it appeared they were all from Eastenders and all was going well until some messengers came and told them there friends and family were dead so they went away all sombre and sad....

I believe there was much more involved because when I woke up I felt utterly confused about what was just happening but alas, I has readjusted to reality once more

I dream most nights, and I love being in them, so to speak. One of the huge reasons I love them is that they provide an interesting form of escapism at times in the recollections. I usually try hard to remember my dreams and, depending on the dream, this provides an interesting means to escape into another reality while still awake.

I also do a lot of writing and I'm an amateur musician in a sense, so dreams provide a lot of interesting perspectives to look at things in different manners. Some of my favorite bits of writing is, one way or another, derived from something I dreamed at night.

Dreams also provide a realistic reflection for me when I am being completely asinine in a major manner. Sometimes if I did a serious blunder, my dreams may reflect that and it may prove to help better me.

What do I actually dream about? A variety of things to be honest, and there is usually a link to events in my current life, or things I pondered about in the past. There were some dreams that were recurring, but none of which I would want to list here right now. I occasionally control my dreams in the sense it is a genuine role play of sorts, but it is often controlled by an omniscient story teller.

Occasionally I wake up remembering my dreams. However, most of the memorable ones are nightmares and gruesome ones at that so I don't think I'll go into too much detail with them. I will say this: a recurring theme in my nightmares is weakness, demasculinization, and falling. When I say weakness, I mean being unable to do anything beneficial in a bad situation. The demasculinization is very literal. I'll leave that to the imagination. Often times when I fall into great depths from the sky or whatever, that is the moment that I wake up, in essence, just as I die. I hope that wasn't too bleak

I've gotten into the habit of writing my dreams down most of the time, though I haven't been doing it very consistently lately. They say that if you keep a dream journal, you'll be able to remember your dreams a lot easier.

Dreams that you control is a phenomenon called lucid dreaming, and it happens when you're on the fine line between dreaming and consciousness. Unfortunately, that means it doesn't last long. But in the time that you have controlling your dreams, it can be pretty fun.

Personally, I don't try to look too deeply in the meaning of dreams. At best, they're our memories mixed around in a newly perceived way, like a world we subconsciously make, but at random. Whether or not it gives reading into our true thoughts or whatever, I'm skeptical about. Nevertheless, I still enjoy my dreams when they happen.

These are just a few dreams from the many in my dream journal:

This must have been last year or something, but I was standing in line to register for classes. But the registration was on top of this really steep hill (budget cuts?). So it's like we're doing this giant hike and as we get to the top, a volunteer mom is sitting there with the usual papers and stuff in hand. And right then and there, she makes me do "tryouts" to get into the classes I want. They ranged from reading stories to answering questions to doing math problems. I woke up soon after.

It was in the summer, but I was dreading it because I had homework to do. But, maybe I shouldn't have been so worried, because my summer homework was to read Touhou manga! One chapter per day in summer. I remember doing it with my friend, as well. But it's weird because he doesn't usually like anime or stuff like that.

This was a bit after Anime Expo last summer. My school was holding this "Masquerade" show where you can dress up like an anime character and do a little skit (they have this same thing at Anime Expo). But, me and my poor planning, I decide to submit a skit where I walk on stage with cat ears, go nya~, and walk off. In retrospect, it wasn't very well done at all. But fortunately, the show never came about in my dream. Instead, on some random tangent, I meet my mom and my little sister. We're in an office at this point. My little sister shows me this Pokemon project she had to do for school where she had to write a detailed research poster on a Pokemon. If only they had that in school nowadays. And the weirdest thing after that, my mom starts calling me onee-chan, even though I'm not her sister in the least.

I have so many more that I could share if anyone is really interested. xP

Whenever I Dream It Is Usually A Dream That Shows The Bad Or Good Things That COULD Have Happened. Like If I Didn't Do My Homework I Could've Had More Time To Play Or If I Didn't Ride My Bike Today I Would've Fallen Down The Stairs. Usually When Ever The Bad Happens I Wake Up Immediately.

Sometimes I Have Dreams About Falling And Those Make My Heart Beat Super Fast! I Always Wake Up All Scared When That Happens.

Last Night I Had This Really Creepy Dream That Was All Sped Up With Lavender Town Music And When I Woke Up My Ears Were Aching So Bad!

I for one really like this topic. I am very interested in the world of dreams and therefore have recently been trying my hand at the art of lucid dreaming, or the ability to realize you are in a dream and can control it. I started this because of how vividly I dream and I began to wonder if there was any way to use such an ability for my own purposes. I now write down my dreams regularly in a dream journal (which has helped me to realize how secretly insane I may actually be :p) . Overall, I find dreaming a very fascinating experience and I love to lucid dream when the opportunity arises.

TargetDummy : how is it going with lucid dreaming?
I haven't been able to do it, haven't actually tried, though most of the time I know I am dreaming but the whole 'being in control' of my dream is hazy still.

and Someone70, I'd like to hear more of your dreams.

aili : Well, sadly it's only happened that I could vividly recall once :/. However, trying to lucid dream greatly increases dream recall and vividness in the dreams you can't control as well.

drago : I heard if you hit the ground while falling in your dream you die ( it's really a theory since there's no proof)
I usually dream things around my life. Today I dreamt about my Anatomy class and the girl who sits behind me sat next to me as a lab partner and my original lab partner, she sat a table up since the seat was taken.I woke up after.

My weirdest dream was the girl I love was gone and everything started to fall apart (literally, buildings, clouds, and objects fell down with water mysteriously dripping but nothing was wet). I clearly remember there was no sun, just a blue little cloudy sky with no light. The next morning she moved to Arkansas and it was raining heavily with no sunlight. Dreams are something to think about.
