I have seen the phrase "the #1 movie in America" on a lot of movies.  For some reason, it feels like they regret it every time they make a new movie and say that it is the "#1 movie in America" when you already said that from an old movie.  There cannot be more than one #1 movies.  Have you noticed that in commercials when they say this phrase?

I don't notice anything any commercial says about movies.

I see the footage from the movie and then decide to watch it.

I wait before I hear accolades. Everything is overhyped, so it's not worth listening to.

I'm sure when they say "the #1 movie in America" they either mean the movie that the most people actually went out to see out of all other films released at that time, or most anticipated out of them. Either way, I'm not usually satisfied.

I agree with vizwiz. What they mean is that while it was in theaters, it was at one point the most watched movie at that specific point in time. So they technically, there can be multiple #1 movies in America at various points in time. But there can only be one #1 movie of the year when December comes rolling around. What bugs me is when numerous movies that are released at around the same time try to claim they are the most anticipated movie. You can't really have a reliable pool to make such a claim accurately.

The phrase #1 movie in America just means that it is the "top grossing" movie at that time, which basically means nothing. They can also screw it other ways like it was the highest rated, but it was only rated by critics that you have never heard of. It's really stupid. Just like someone can say "Best burger in (Blank)" I mean there is no way to qualify that.

Yeah I agree with Mega, especially on that last little bit there. I don't really go based off of that "Title" I guess you would call it. If it was a Sequel to a movie that I both saw and enjoyed in the past than I'm all for it regardless of other's opinions. If it is new and something I'm not sure about seeing, I usually go to rotten tomatoes and see what other people have to say about it.

So many movie commercials will say "#1 Movie" that I tend to ignore them. Seriously, every single movie has that phrase now. It kind means nothing at this point. If I want to see a movie, I'll tell from its footage.

I can't remember where I heard this, but I heard that a lot of those "movie review's" used in the previews are drastically changed from what was actually said just to promote the movie so people will watch it. I know I've seen movies that were claimed to be the greatest and ended up being completely disappointed. I usually end up liking movies that weren't promoted as much, more so than the one that were overly hyped.
