This was a feature that I talked about doing a few months ago, I finally got around to spending a day doing it.

Post Experience is a new way to show a user's dedication to the site.  Similar to post count, this tracks the total number of words among all posts.  For example, if I make a post with 25 words, that adds 25 to my Post Exp.

HTML tags do not count toward the word count of a post.  Editing your post by removing / adding words to your post decreases / increases your overall Post Exp.

A users Post Experience can be found anywhere their post count is shown.  You can also see a person's average words per a post count on profile pages and on the memberlist.

I'm pretty excited about this feature, it's something I've wanted for a long time.  I feel like the Post Count isn't a good enough indicator of a person's post quality and while not all big posts are of quality, most are.  Anyways, now I'm 1 step closer to finishing the Tour de Vizzed


EDIT: I should also point out to the staff that editing another user's post can increase or decrease their post exp.  For example, if a user made a big spam post with tons of words, if you edit their post and remove those spam words, that'll remove those words from their post exp as well.

I must have missed you talking about this a few months ago. I was actually wondering if something like this would even be possible. But I didn't ask because I figured it wouldn't really be a priority at the moment. I really like this. I know that there are a lot of users with fairly high post counts, but a lot are so short. A lot of times, I have trouble keeping a post under 100 50-100 words, but something like that was never reflected. Just one quick question. I am familiar with you working on a Tour de Vizzed. What exactly is that? Couldn't ever quite get the grasp of it.

Well... This is certainly an update I'm going to have to get used to. Now I'm back down to 18 on the memberlist.

Could you update the post radar so that it counts for post exp in addition to, or rather than, post count?

Oh, I get it. Awesome. I also noticed that the memberlist ranks have been completely altered. For those who really care about their position, a lot of people are going to be upset or overjoyed (I am overjoyed, as I moved from 44 to 27). I also like this as it throws out spam posts for the memberlist ranks. It also makes it to where it takes longer to climb in ranks because it takes more than a few posts to climb. This really is an overall win idea. Much better representation. How long did it take to do this?

rcarter2 : I completely agree.  I had to create a few scripts to tally up stuff (such as all the words of all posts of the site), had to add the post exp to various pages, so probably a total of 6-8 hours.

I see, so not too terribly bad, considering how long a lot of other things have probably taken to set up. I hope that this will cut down on spam posts. Although, I guess that will mainly only be the case for those who either care about their memberlist rank  or are trying to do well in the Tour de Vizzed. But cutting down spam posts even a little is always an improvement. Do you plan on making users level reflect their post exp instead of post count, or would that take too much time to establish a system for? I ask because I know a lot of people spam post to increase their level when they hear about the distant future feature of the Battle Arena.

Yay. I'm now 10th on the Memberlist. Resetting the Memberlist to sort by Post Experience should encourage better posts and possibly semi-reduce Crazy House traffic. I love it.

Haha, I hear about how much people love rising in rank because of the post exp, but I went down a few levels because of it. x3

Ah well, it will still help to cut down on spam posts, at least.

It's a great feature I really like It.I can't believe I'm number 75, it's really a shock since My posts aren't that great.I'm glad I'm pretty high on the list tho. =3

If people think the memberlist should sort by posts by default again, I'm willing to switch it back but I'm really liking it the way it is now.

Well, looks like I made it all the way up to 46 =D     I have an average of 155 words per post. This is quite a helpful feature. I can get something like 1000 exp per review I make, and motivates me to do more posting. Looking forward to Tour De Vizzed.

Keep it how it is. I like that word count is more stressed than post count... hopefully it doesn't get abused.

And yeah, DH was a tank. Looks like I got some major work left if I am to pass him.

Now I feel like I can actually accomplish something on this site in terms of posting. There is no way I was ever going to pass the people above me but now the tables have turned and my extensive posts have made an impact on the memberlist position Good bye post count

I like this new feature although I'm quite shocked I only have a 26 words per post average being the 5th (right now) top poster on the members list.

Hopefully, I'll be able to increase my average (at least in the 40ish range) with more detailed posts. I don't see this as a disappointment but a motivation.

Wow, I like this new feature And I'm glad that the char hours are updated too. I was worrying that only mine didn't update.

Interesting update, and I like it as well. It is a more realistic means of gauging one's dedication and I don't see any critical flaws as of now either.

Hmm...I wonder how my rank altered...53...I think that's higher than it was, I'm not too sure to be honest X D

I don't think there is a point in changing it back. If people want to look at the memberlist in terms of post count, all they have to do is click the posts tab on the screen, and it sorts all the users that way. So if it means that much to them, they still have that feature.
