Since I've returned i have taken back my idle crown, I always go into chat and immediately idle, then stay there for hours at a time, sometimes participating.

I haven't used the chat before, but I bet I will because that's what I do a lot in chat. Sometimes I join in but most of the time I just spectate and watch what happens. If it's an interesting topic I join in. Not interesting? Leave or wait. That's what I usually do in a chat server.

I generally just leave the chat if I`m not going to be talking because I hate it when I`m trying to talk top someone and they don`t ever respond because they either forgot to exit out of the chat or their being idle (or ignoring me).

So yes, I idled before for nearly 10 minutes ALL BECAUSE there isn't something I can talk about! (I follow the chat rules.)

I only go Idle when I'm playing a game. When I get very deep into the game, I just continue playing without giving attention to the converstion. Then the "Away" status is automatically set, However, when I end with the game I contiue chatting.
