There are many accusations about whether Birdo, the egg-spitting monster-dino thing from Super Mario, is male or female. Some people believe that since the original character of Birdo from Japan was referred to as "He", that Birdo is indeed male. Others argue that if Birdo were male, it would not be dressed in heavy makeup and a pink bow--also, that Yoshi would not have been paired with in the past recent Mario games.  I've wondered for quite a time about Birdo's gender and I want to get down to the bottom of it....

Very interesting question. The modern Birdo, I would say they made a girl with the big bow on the head and long eyelashes. But on Super Mario Bros 2, I don't think there had to be a distinction. If you wanted, maybe the pink ones were girls, and those green ones were boys, and the reds.......well maybe there could be boy reds or girl reds.
