Today I came across an introduction thread that had been bumped multiple times. This was not the first time I've seen this happen. Old threads from a month ago (or even earlier) are being posted in where they should be ignored. I can understand this happens when a user has not read the rules or does not have any idea of the consensus we have about thread bumping. Also, there have been times where experienced members needlessly posted in these threads after a major bump. Most likely, these users have not checked the time stamps in the thread to ensure importance.

There is a second aspect of the Newbie Forum I want to discuss. There are times when I feel users have posted in introduction threads for the sake of post count more than to help. I am not going to go finger-pointing in this thread. If the staff, preferably the Global Mods, would like to see what I believe are examples, they can PM me. For now, I will give an idea what I believe is needless posting. I find it unnecessary for four, five, or more experienced users to be posting in the same thread. Yes, a lot of us are capable of helping, and wanting to help is a good thing as well, but I also think that we are going a little overboard with this I hardly see the local mods of the Newbie Forum posting in there anymore.

Before anyone replies, please read thing final paragraph. I am mainly concerned with the topic of thread bumping than I am with the topic of too many people posting in one spot. I just thought I'd put the second one in here since this is all about the Newbie Forum.

Yeah, I agree with the thread bumping issue. Perhaps a newbie thread can automatically be closed after a month of no posts.

AuraBlaze : Yeah I think we need a rule where a member can't make more than a certain amount of posts in the newbie forum per a day. Maybe a limit of 10 or something. That forum can easily be abused like the crazy house. I definitely don't want to discourage people from introducing newbies though, the more welcomes they get, the more likely I think they are to stick around.

Even if it's still getting replies, I think a month is a long enough time for a newbie thread.

It gets rid of many issues.

Generally after a month, most newbies have had their questions answered. At that point they probably should know about the Help Forum as well as the Local Mod Box and RGR Staff Box. Maybe really make it a point to have to see it before you can post.

Davideo7 : I am not to concerned about how many times somebody posts in the newbie forum as long as they are legitimately trying to help new members. What does frustrate me the most is seeing 5 or 6 different people all offering assistance at the same time. If that is something that does not need to be regulated, then I can move on from it.

A matter that I does concern me a lot is when members do not bother to read the time stamps and end up thread bumping. That is why agree with leggy that there should be an auto-close after one month.

I think it should be made a rule that people should really give more thought into how they greet newbies honestly. It feels like some people are being shallow :/

legacyme3 : That is pretty much it right there. Whenever I am in the Newbie Forum, I first try to make sure that my posts are worthwhile and helpful. If I can't think of anything worthwhile to say, or there are three users who have already replied, I skip the thread entirely --unless the newbie has a legitimate question posted after those replies. It is when users are clearly posting for the post count that irritates me and why there should be more rigid guidelines to posting in that forum.

I'm only here to help, not to make friends with everyone who comes on the site. Once I see someone else has reached out, I step back and let the members handle it. It's not really my business to mutter the same thing everyone else has.
