I have never really thought about this much but I wanted to bring it up to you here on vizzed. So recently I was talking with my friends while playing a popular FPS. (Don't ask what it is seems like the popular FPS games right now can start a flame war at the simple name of them. Anyways we were playing and here is our conversation. About 100%

"Why is there an inverted setting?"

"I don't know I never use it..."

"Me either, it doesn't make sense."

"Well.... ya it doesn't."

"Wait yes it does!"

"Wha?"

"Think about it, if your head is the stick. If you push forward on your head you look down. If you pull back on the head you look up..."

"Oh. Cool story bro."

"I know..."

"Either way inverted players can go f**k themselves."

"Ya, ya they can."

So are you inverted?

I'd hate to answer that question because then I'd have to go f*** myself.

I grew up playing inverted from all these airplane games like Star Fox. If you think about it, tilting up in an airplane will point the nose down. It always confuses me that pointing up actually points up.

Someone70 : Haha. I did not say it but I did agree with it. I just hate getting on some guys XBOX and then firing up a good game of FPS and then having to switch it. Though on plane games I think that it is ok. Though then inverted is normal, if you invert on those games you must get yourself checked out.

I hate invert,i especialy hate how games dont stick to a defined invert, some call pushing the stick up to look up inverted, others have it oposite.when you start a game it should let you calibrate the controls.

Well, the only time I use inverted is on flying games, and in those cases, that's the normal setting, not inverted. Any other time, it bugs me, but flying games for me HAVE to be that way, or else I'll screw it up. I don't know why, though.

I do not play first-person shooters, but I can still give some input here. I agree with silverthundr. I play with an inverted y-axis on certain games like Star Fox 64. Having that as the norm, it did not take too long for me to get used to it. I think I could get used to an inverted y-axis on other games if I tried, but that could be a bit challenging.

I play all FPS's with a normal control scheme. But whenever I play some sort of flight simulator, or game, even if it is within an FPS, ala Battlefield or something, I always have to use an inverted control scheme. For me, it's as if the joystick is the stick of the plane, so I have to use inverted. I've tried to switch, I really have, but it's impossible! I'm addicted.

I'm accustomed to the invert for both up and down, and left and right. That's how I've learned to play FPS games or games that enable camera movement; normal is awkward for me. For those who want to trash talk on the inverted controls, game on if you think you can win, lol.
