Really, if you think about it, nearly every platformer in which you step on enemies after Super Mario Bros. came out is a rip-off of the game. There doesn't seem like a whole lot you could do with the genre with the technology they had back then.

Besides, most developers probably wanted to cash in on the game craze that was going on at the time. After seeing Super Mario Bros.'s success, it's not surprising they did the exact same thing.

I don't even know why people would make SMB on an MSX. To tell the truth the MSX does not have the graphical capabilities built in to play a game like SMB.
