You know what is worst than getting your data erased? Getting your memory device lost! My brother lost BOTH of my GameCube memory cards, which contained (the furthest files): my Metroid Prime 1 file (99% cleared story), Metroid Prime 2 file (85%-ish cleared story), Zelda Windwaker file (I was on the second quest, just before the final dungeon), Super Mario Sunshine (42 Shine Sprites, not yet finished Corona Mt.) and Zelda Twilight Princess (in the Sky Temple).

So much hours gone to waste... ;(.

I cant really recall my sister erasing any of my datas, I think. BUT, there was a time when my gamecube memory card was like"currupt data, would you like to format?" My thumb reacts before I do and I pressed format.  I didnt realize the damage until i continued on to Monkey Ball 2's main screen and it said there was no data... so I went to the memory card main screen to see what happened to Monkey Ball, and saw the most horrific sight so far in my years of living. All...ALL of my data was gone??? Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon, Star Fox, Pikmin, EVERYTHING! I was like "............................................................."

Thankfully that has never happened to me. I don't know what I'd do if it did. If it was an accident, I'd probably shrug it off, but if it was on purpose, I'd be pissed.
