Here are some changes to the trust point system that were done recently:

-You need 10 points to become trusted
-If you go below 5 points while trusted you become untrusted
-Can only rate 3 people per a day
-Doubled the amount of points you need to rate someone a certain amount of points; example:
Before you needed at least 25 points to rate someone +4, now you need at least 50 points

These changes were made as a temporary mitigation to the rampant trust point abuses that we see happening. We realize this is not a permanent fix and it's not supposed to be. This is temporary and will be replaced by a permanent change to the trust point system in the future.

Can we get a list of how much TP you need to give each amount now?

Since 50 is required to give 4, would that make 75 able to give out 5?

pacman1755 : well, it's not so much less abuse.... but it makes it tougher to abuse the system....

If a persons rating is 1 - 3, they can give a member a +1 or a -1 for points
If a persons rating is 4 - 9, they can give a member +2 or -2 for points
If a persons rating is 10 - 24, they can give a member +3 or -3 for points
If a persons rating is 25 - 49, they can give a member a rating of +4 or -4
If a persons rating is 50 or more, they can give a member a rating of +5 or -5

therefore:

If a persons rating is 2 - 6/7, they can give a member a +1 or a -1 for points
If a persons rating is 8 - 18/19, they can give a member +2 or -2 for points
If a persons rating is 20 - 49, they can give a member +3 or -3 for points
If a persons rating is 50 - 99, they can give a member a rating of +4 or -4
If a persons rating is 100 or more, they can give a member a rating of +5 or -5


This is what I would assume happened. Not sure though.... might have been tweaked in those lower levels a bit more than that.

I like this idea as well as many other ideas of yours Geeo, I like the idea of EARNING trust points instead of getting them for being liked....

Thanks for posting this.  I just updated the Help Center to reflect the point requirements:

If a persons rating is 5 - 14, they can give a member a +1 or a -1 for points

If a persons rating is 15 - 24, they can give a member +2 or -2 for points

If a persons rating is 25 - 49, they can give a member +3 or -3 for points

If a persons rating is 50 - 99, they can give a member a rating of +4 or -4

Just because someone trusts or doesn't trusts someone doesn't make it abuse. I think this trust point system is flawed no matter what is done to it. Its more of a popularity contest then anything. Newbies ask me for them all the time and I hand them out like candy. That is not a bad thing... but like I said the system is flawed, biased, and unfixable. Switch to dedication points it will go a lot better.

The only way to earn TPs is through bribing, begging or seducing other members that is why it will always fail and abuse will continue to exist.

I'm still reatilvly new so I don't know what the trust system is. So in general I don't know yet I pass the test so I'm still learning the web sight I guess I hope to have. It down pack soon.

Well,coupled with the fact iv randomly been rated down five points recently thats my rating ability down to +1 / -1
Then again i barely ever rate people so i dont suppose it makes much difference.

adjadde : The trust point system works like this. As you have likely seen, some people have the label "Trusted Member". They got this by earning trust points. Other trusted members are able to give other users trust points (the amount they can give depends on how many points they have themselves). What is supposed to happen is that trusted members are supposed to give trust points to people when they see that they post often, are polite to others, show dedication to the site, etc. When you get to be a trusted member, you mainly get a few extra perks in the forums. Problem is, it used to be hard to get trust points and it took a long time (it took me about 100 days to get my first trust point). But it is become an increasing problem where we are seeing users who registered 0 days ago, and are already trusted because they are real life friends with a trusted member who just gives them enough to be trusted members even though they have contributed nothing to the site. That often leads to more abuse because, frankly, some people who are trusted members would not have earned that position had the system not been abused so much. It really has turned into a popularity contest in a lot of ways, but there are still a lot of users who get points the way it was intended, so I don't think it is a dead system.

JigSaw : what is a "dedication" point? How would that system differ?

I would like to know what dedication points means, too. Is it something that would be more immune to abuse?

rcarter: I can only assume you would be rewarded with points based on things other than "popularity"...

as in there would be some formula that would give points based on factors related to dedication to the board. Maybe doing work for the board would give points, or posting, or referrals or things like that. I'm just guessing but I would assume it's more along that line than points given out by members based on who likes who not who is best for the board.

Jigsaw himself even admitted to not following the spirit of the trust point system so I would assume that many others disregard it as well (and I have seen evidence of that many times).

That makes sense. Kind of like the same way you earn Staff Points to meet monthly quota. Certain acts give you so many points, and once you get a certain amount, you get a 'dedicated member' title?
