I was wondering if people would like more contests like the one going on now. It's a fun way to get new members and who doesn't like winning something?

By contests, do you mean the 10,000 Viz ones that David has every month? So far, I think they're doing their job quite nicely. It's hard for someone to keep up with one contest, let alone two, as well as this whole site. If you're looking for other ways to get viz, though, I recommend checking out the Viz Market forum.

They have plenty contests as of now but a few more wouldn't hurt

There are a lot of contests open if you know where to look.

There are the two David runs EVERY MONTH
There is the Monthly VCS which happens EVERY MONTH
I run a contest or two a month in Innocent Town (forum near the bottom)
Sometimes there are contests in Vizzed Market too.

Someone70 : I meant the new one about winning a video game. If more people are inclined for those type of things you could do several things. Another game contest. A movie contest maybe. Maybe even those card things you can buy for psn were you input the code and w,e card you bought puts that amount in your psn account. So you could buy packages and even download a game if you had enough money on your account... I really hoped that made sense I barely alive at the moment I can barely see straight lol I really need to sleep

Again, if you look in Innocent Town, you will find more competitions relating to Video Games. I currently have a couple open and I'll probably open more when the current ones finish.

As for the idea about cards and buying things, I don't see that happening =S

The site doesn't pull in enough revenue to realistically expect a prize aside from Viz.

thenumberone : It was just an idea really. Only way to make more money is maybe offer up retro cartoon/shows/movies downloads and make it like a buck a download but I don't see that happening

From what I understand, we have a posting contest called the VCS and other RGR contests.

Also, David wants the site free to play (I think).

Galacta : Like I said it was merely an idea. Only other way I could think is to offer up ps1 and maybe dream cast games if more donations would be made to the site. But since were already trying to save up for are current update I'm not sure how well that would go. But like I said I am trying to throw around some ideas. Hell I even offered to have some retro shows be on here eailer. Most of then back when fox kids was still around.

I'd rather all the games have hi-score tracking, personally, as I'm more of a take it at your own pace kind of person, but events are always nice for those who enjoy say role playing(I encountered an event for Earth Day on an MMO where trees were taking over the world... I think we can work out how Monty Python-like the role playing was there... Granted, I don't do online role playing. I just was enjoying having tons of things to kill while the other people were acting out budget geek humor that is awesome.) or maybe just like to do stuff like get high scores, and be given a reward for it. These events should be for good reason, though.

Maybe we could have an event for Earth Day similar to the one I mentioned, only it'd be more Zelda based and confined to a single thread. Maybe celebrate the anniversary of iconic video games that happen to be on here. I mean, Nintendo just released one thing for the guy that helped save gaming, but Zelda gets its own bloody- Yeah... I'll just go let people not think about that...

Anyway, maybe some events for iconic video games that are pretty much what people think when they hear the term video game? I know those already happen more often than Pac-Man's click and point adventure game gets thrown in the trash, but what about more than just the obvious ones as well? Phantasy Star, a few old Apple II games that aren't Oregon Trail, and some other games that either would be nice to introduce people to, or simply are nice to note due to cult status.

Maybe something similar to that posting spree we did for a very special member of this site could be done sometimes, as well. Maybe word count sprees on whatever day happens to also be for celebrating grammar and words? Maybe an annual cult fandom day where people into media that has gained a cult following can talk about such things(Psychonauts, The Room, Rock Horror Picture Show, the original Fallout games, and a ton of other things) could be arranged by someone who understands that kind of stuff? Maybe a user could choose a favorite game out of the RGR, and it could be the second weekly featured game.

I'm more about getting the word out about lesser known things, obviously. Giving away things outside of Viz could cause this site to crumble, as David isn't just hoarding a ton of stuff for us. An event doesn't have to be getting an actual game disc or cartridge at all. It can be a day for simply enjoying a common ground that some of us might share. It could be in celebration of how funny trees taking over the world is. It could be a day to remind us that we might become the slaves of dolphins.

Oh, and on I Hope We Aren't Enslaved by Dolphins day, you get 1 Viz for every instance of saying Dolphin, Dolphins, and new world order.

Contests aren't really sparse around here. I remember once a long time ago, when Vizzed had it's old layout, there was a forum specifically for RGR contests. It wasn't too active, but there were some fun things in there.
