I'm getting a new laptop soon... deciding among 3 of them: HP Pavilion dv6-3230us Notebook PC, aluminum, Samsung Q530-JA02 NP-Q530-JA02US Notebook PC, Gateway NV55C48u LX.WSG02.051 Notebook PC. Anyone know if any of these is better than the other? (keep in mind I almost know nothing about computers...) Also, anything that's fun that I can do on my new laptop that I couldn't normally do on the family computer. I want to install Steam on there and play games like left 4 dead 1 & 2 and team fortress 2 and so on...

I took a quick look at all three of them using Google Product Search. The Samsung Q520 stood out from the others for several reasons. You said you want to install Steam. I have TF2 on my laptop, but the graphics card and processor cannot fully handle it. The Google Product Search says that the Samsung has a 2.53 GHz (gigahertz) processor. My laptop only has about 2.0 GHz. Also, it says that is has a NVIDIA graphics card which sounds like it should work just fine for you. Be aware that I am no expert whatsoever on computers, but the little information I have gained tells me the Samsung Q530 is your best choice of the three.

Bearing in mind what aura said,(i havent looked these up)the nvidia graphics card is what i use so thats fine.if its for gaming you want the ones with:
High processor speeds(games will run fast and smooth)
You want high ram(so you can run big games/multiple programs)
And decent sized harddrive(unless you go crazy with downloads,i doubt you'll encounter storage problems.

So yeh,ram and proccessor speed.also the more proccesors the better,eg dual core,tricore,quadcore.
I have tricore,nvidia,4gb ram,about 320gb harddrive,and i cant remember the proccessor speeds,i think about 2.6ghz(but i have 3 processors).as yet,flawless.

I am sorry but I do not know all that much about computers and stuff but those three appear that they are good. They have good RAM and good built in graphics cards. All in all I hope that you like your new PC!

Thx for the replies guys. I already got the gateway one though. It has really good specs for the price and everything is high enough to play the games that I want. It was hard to find reviews for it but it said it was durable and everything looked good on it, so that's the one I got... I mainly NEED it for college, but I WANT it for steam

Be careful how you run it. Things like Steam could quickly lower your battery's ability to hold a charge --at least it seems that way with mine.

Nice! I remember my first laptop... It was a fun experience to actually own one. Well, I had a desktop first, but laptop was portable so I thought of it as an upgrade.

I don't know much about the three specific computers you are choosing between, but I do think that laptops are much better. Being able to lounge in my bedroom while on Vizzed and Facebook is so much more convenient.
