A earthquake registering at 5.9 on the Richter Scale hit the Washington D.C. area from Virginia at 1:50 EST, today! People as far as New York City, I think even Boston, felt the rumble. While I am not from D.C., I did feel it as I sat down for class close to 2:00 and I live north of Baltimore.

I was asleep while the Earthquake itself happened....I awoke to loud rumbling and the ground shaking. It scared me because Earthquakes aren't suppose to happen in New York....bitter sweet that it happened elsewhere.

I have this gut feeling something bad is going to happen sometime tonight due to the aftershock....I hope not.

Normally I'd feel a minor vibration from where I live due to the
building status. But that "shaking" right there, that felt odd... and
creepy.

From what I've heard, evacuations were set on some of the buildings and
others left home for a duration. Not just that but dropped calls were
increased on cell phones due to that (either that or it could be an
excuse from the providers themselves). Knowing this kinda gives me an
eerie feeling of "what if situation" based on the quake... but I'm
thinking that isn't going to happen for a very long time.

FYI an earthquake has happen on New York previously so here's a link I dug out of my own paranoia:

The fault line under Maryland/Virginia is larger than the San Andreas, It's a lot less active though.

It was a pretty good shake on the earthquake. 5.8 magnitude I think. Of course, I didn't feel it since I don't live near the East Coast.

I live in Maryland, so I felt the earthquake. This is the responses from me and my family

Me: No big deal, it is a little earthquake, it happens all the time.

Sister: (Trying to explain to my brother that a crack on the road doesn't form the earthquake.)

Mom: That was scary! i never felt it like that. We should have a hot-air balloon.

Brother: (shakes himself) Earthquake!

Dad: N/A

I have no mod powers in the forums yet, so I can't really do anything to the thread. But, yours is getting more activity anyway even though it's a duplicate.
