If HTML isn't the code that's used, what code's used instead?

Are you using the new post editor? If that's what you mean, you can always switch to the old post editor. It still allows HTML.

The new post editor has HTML. Look at the bottom of the editor to where there are three buttons; Normal, HTML, and Preview. If it does not work then don't look to me. I don't know enough about this site, or HTML for that matter. The fact is I still use the old post editor.

Personally, I only used the new version as long as I had to. It seriously messed up the post whenever I went to edit it. I edit a lot, so that got on my nerves. When David made it possible to switch to the old one, I switched it right away. The only problem with it for me is that it doesn't have the menu that showed the smilies. Other than that, I'm happy with the old one.

There are several reasons why HTML won't work on it. Could be that the editor strips any html elements in the post, it could be that it hashes html elements so it might be looking for hashed, encoded, or modified versions of html like BBCode. Many sites including vizzed use BBCode which is basically like HTML except with [] instead of <> in the tags. I don't know anything about it but you should switch to the old editor.

Post editors in general don't expect users to know or use HTML so it generates it for them by clicking on buttons within the editor. Entering your own html code into it could disrupt or cause it to not work it really depends on how the thing is coded and what the restrictions are on it if any. I also am not sure if posts through the new editor are running through the old post editors functions, if it is then its probably removing or escaping html elements which would cause it to not display.

Just use the old one And for smileys just click on "More Formatting Tags Here" located to the left of when your making a post.

Its best to use old post because it more easier and I love it. beside, html is work best on there so try use the old post for whiles and you will get use to old post like many long time user did.

The "HTML" button makes it literal HTML. You'll need to put in your own line break (<br/>) tags. I'd really suggest the old option.
