I'm not lying when I say 90% of the reviews I see on Vizzed, it's always something like this:


"This game is really great I had a lot of fun with it the game has good graphics and good music, better then most of its time and you should go play it."



I'll be frank: These are annoying, and I'm absolutely sick of them. When I want to read a review someone creates in the review thread of the RGR, I am expecting a half decent wall of text -- Not someone simply praising the game, calling it a review where it's basically them saying. "Hey guys. I liked this game a lot. Go play it." and then getting a bunch of free Viz whenever someone else reviews the game as well or something like that. In my opinion, a review should be at least 250 words. And honestly, if you're actually trying to make an ACTUAL review, this shouldn't be really hard.

I realize however this can be an exception on several games that cannot really have huge textual reviews. For example, if you could make a 250 word review on something very simple.... like Tetris... or Pacman, then you are really damn good. This is why I made this poll. SHOULD there be a word limit that you must have typed before a review thread can be submitted?

I think that is a fair limit to be for reviews. If you can't use 250 words to describe a game you haven't played it enough or you don't need to be reviewing the game in the first place.

I think that's pretty fair. I admit some of my reviews are pretty short, so it looks like I'll have to do some major editing sooner or later. >.>

Being the moderator of RGR Reviews as well as one of the movers of the reviews to the review forum, I have to agree with this.

A lot of the reviews I have to move are so short, I wouldn't call them reviews, yet I have to move them anyway, because I don't want to be the guy to get rid of 90% of "reviews" on this site.

That's just a comment it's not even a review I think it has to be at least 200 words for it to count as a review

I completely agree, because I am a RGR Staff reviewer myself, and I try to set a example for everyone who reviews like that.

Honestly, just 250 words are easy for me, since I actually just handed in a 323 words review on a EXTREMELY simple game of Hyper Rally, a MSX game. That, and Super Snake too. =/

Yeah, I think 250 is a good limit for reviews. I don't even see why people think they can post two sentences and call them "reviews" of a game. If you've ever seen a game review before, whether it's in a magazine or online, you can see that they're pages long and cover all types of aspects about a game. If you aren't willing to contribute a measly 100, let alone 250, words to a review, then I say you're not ready to review things.

What would someone think if I summoned Davideo7 here to take a look at this idea?


Because I think it's desperately needed, in my honest opinion. I see so many of these one/two lined reviews a day, the numbers are honestly quite ridiculous.

It couldn't hurt to summon David. But I think the fair minimum amount for a review should be 100, as in what he said in the Reviews sub forum rules thread:

The size of your review also determines how much Viz you get. 100 - 499 words means you'll get twice as much Viz, 500 - 1999 words means you'll get 3 times more viz, etc.

Maybe, but 100 words in any way is not a review at all. 250 words barely is a review too but will at least contain some merit for the user wanting to review the game. Much like Geeogree said: "If you can't use 250 words to describe a game, you haven't played it enough or don't need to be reviewing the game in the first place." Of course, I'm not too keen on the limit. I'm just absolutely sick of the 1 or 2 sentenced "reviews" and I think it's becoming a big problem, if it hasn't already.



Davideo7 :   I'd like to request your opinion(s) on this? So far nobody has said that this is a bad idea yet, and generally agree with it. I'm not too taxed about what the limit should actually be. Most people seem to be agreeing on 250 words though. Thinking about it, should 250 should work on plenty of games. I could probably do a 250 word review on Tetris if I properly covered all the topics such as graphics, sound, etc and not just the gameplay.

I agree on a word limit but I do think it should be 100 instead of 250.  There are some games that are so simple that they can be thoroughly described in just 100 words (look at some of the Atari 2600, Commodore 64 or Apple II games to see what I mean). 

Yes because some people write a review that is barley longer than this post. A lot of noobs do not try.
