I have friends that are both older and younger than me. It's sometimes weird to talk about them about stuff that's happening in school, life, etc. But as long as we have common interests, then I'm fine with it.

I don't think it's weird. I have friends who are as young as 13 and ones as old as 26. I don't really hang out with them much, but I do count them as my friends. As long as we get along, it's fine.  

I don't know the statistics, but it may not be as abnormal as you might think. I don't think the age matters much when it comes to friends. Many of my close friends are around my age, but many of the nicest people that I've met online are a lot older than me. You said you're 21, you are an adult by default but you also sound very mature for your age as well. I know of people in their thirties that are childish. There is a grand total of two fellow students that I actually look forward to see at my school. Yet, I love seeing most of my professors. I have an easier time talking to them. It all comes down to the person. Anyway, you shouldn't feel weird about that. Judge a person by the quality of their character and nothing else. I believe Dr. King said something along those lines. Yes. It is weird. Actually, it is extremely weird. Looks like I'm the only one who is normal.........Actually, I just wanted to have one reply that had a different answer. But really, it isn't. I had very few friends that are my age (given, my closest friends are the ones who are). For me, it is more of a maturity thing that matters. If they are just giddy immature people, I'll be nice, but not likely to hang out. But most of my friends were either at least 3-4 years older than me, or 2-5 years younger than me. It doesn't really matter as long as their personalities click with mine.

Yeah it is kind of weird, the people in my grade are all older than me, I really should be a grade lower than what I am now but I started kindergarten when I was 4.
To sum it up it is pretty weird.

I do not find it weird at all. In fact, I would encourage it to a certain extent. The reason I say this is from personal experience. At one point in time most of the people I hung around (though not exactly with) who were my age picked on me, and all I was doing was being honest about myself. Although I cannot call this fact, youths around the age of 10 through lower teens like to punk others when possible. Depending on the settings, it can possibly become a case of "bully or be bullied" --at least that is what is was for me and a few of my closest friends for a time.

Things have changed for me, and this is how I see friendships with those who are younger and older can be beneficial. Older folks, such as adults, tend to be more respectful and understanding. They can set a good example for you as you grow up. Having friends who are younger than yourself can be your own opportunity to be good example to others.

Now do not get me wrong on this, everyone needs to have friends who are the same age. I will finish this explanation with some admittance to bias. I raised in a home school setting for most of my time in grade school and high school, so I was often exposed to people who were of similar, and varying ages. The key here, I am trying to explain, is the setting you are in.

I once had two friends when i was in the eight grade the other two kids were just in the sixth grade i don't even have class with them and they like to hang out with me it was just awful.It is weird try being hanging out with someone 7 or 8 years younger then you in public everyone will think you're a pedo

Nope. Its not weird at all to have friends older or younger than you. Friends shouldn't be judged by their age, a friend is a friend no matter their age. I have very young friends and older friends alike. Its nothing weird at all.

I do not think it is weird to have friends older or younger than you.I have a friend in gr.7 who plays Yugioh and I also play Yugioh.We both like doing one of the same things we do.He is also nice and smart,too.I became friends with him.It is not really weird at all

Not really. I personally think that it's moreso about the person than their age. I personally think it's great to have some older friends. That way, they can give you much needed advice from time to time.

I suppose it depends on what type of relationship you have with the person in the first place. Otherwise, it's not really weird at all. I'd say it'd be somewhat odd if you didn't associate a little out of your age group every once in a while. As long as there isn't any trouble because of that association, then there should not be much to worry over it.

Well I got a friend who's 10 years older than me. We've known each other for as long as 12 years and to this day we still hang out even though we don't see other a lot.

No way. I'm 17, and my friends range from 13-30. My girlfriend is only 14 (About to be 15, though)

Not weird at all. I'm 16, and my closest friends range in age from 14 to 18, and I also am always hanging out with a bunch of other people; I have friends in youth group as young as 12 and college friends as old as 21 that I talk to on a regular basis
